I feel like I never stop! LOL!! Between laundry, and dishes, and housework, and shuttling my daughter to school and various music things, and working 2 or 3 (or more!) 12 hour night shifts each week, I don't do much of anything else. Except post on here - LOL!!

In the warm weather (I hope it shows up soon!!!!!!) I love to be outdoors walking or riding my bike or just anything!!

:)

Fairly active- Tennis 2-3 times per week. And in golf season tennis becomes 1-2 times per week and golf becomes 2-3 times per week. Of course there is watching my kids sports too! Track, Hockey, Cross Country Running (this is active- chasing your son around a 5K course to see how well he does!), swimming and baseball. Watching one's kids sports is like a part time job in my case, but it is far more rewarding. I gush with pride when I see my kids out there trying there hardest and loving it!

NM,
I wish I were more active besides my workouts. I have pretty much a sitting job (Lawyer), so Monday -Friday, I am at a desk (with the occasional exception) from 8-6 or so. I come home, do my workout, make dinner for DH and I, eat, clean up and then usually read, work on a puzzle, or something relaxing. It's one of my major beefs with my job, but it pays the bills.

I'm not too active aside from working out. I teach, and don't sit down when I do, but standing and sometimes pacing, though it's more active than sitting at a desk, isn't too active. In nice weather, I garden and landscape and saw and trim and do various outdoor activities. I don't do any outdoor sports. I choose a basket when shopping and walk quickly through the aisles :) I watch a lot of movies and read alot. On a scale of 1 to 10, activitywise, I'd rate myself at about a 5.

I stay pretty active. I babysit my toddler niece so I spend lots of time chasing her around and when she gets whiney, I'll put her in the baby backpack and go for a walk. I also like to rollerblade with my husband and this summer I'll be spending a lot of time swimming with the kids. On weekends, we walk to the mall (about a 3 mile roundtrip). The mall walks are nice because it's the only way to get any kind of exercise from my 14 year old son. When we find the time, my daughter and I like to do yoga together.

I'm unfortunately not very active aside from my scheduled workouts and walking my dog. I'm usually at my desk doing school work most of the day and don't really enjoy any sports that I would do as a fun activity. Also, when I'm feeling depressed, I hardly get out. And on top of that, I absolutely despise the summer! I know many of you are longing for the warmer weather, but when it hits 80, I want to sit at home with my AC all day!

Oh well, we do what we can!

Gina

Wait- edit- I really enjoy hiking!

Probably overactive.

I rarely sit still. I can't. I don't have the gene that allows me to sit still. I love to watch movies, but even there, recently, I have felt the need to get up and pace around a bit, make frequent trips to the kitchen for coffee or one small treat, in order to be able to come and sit back down again.

I think I can sit still for a total of 15 minutes, tops. So, this nervous energy keeps me on the go.

I'm like kathryn, when I teach, I never sit down, I walk around the roon to engage the eyes of all students, I write on the blackboards at both the front and the back fo the classroom, since I have the tendency to fill them, and them I sprint around town doing errands, like yesterday, for several hours. I do not walk at a normal pace, again, I am unable to do so, I walk very fast.

My annual holiday each year is spent hiking and hoisting a heavy backpack, introducing my kids to the North American wilderness. I could never lie on a beach, the inactivity would kill me.

During an average day, I am up and down all the time, making food for family members, ua and down stairs doing laundry, tidying bedroms, etc.

The time I sit still the most is when I go online or on weekend nights when the whole family gets together to play every board game and card game know to man! And also when my husband cuddles me, which is so not frequently enough, that I don' t dare move, lest he stop!

On weekdays, there is not much activity beside the morning workout before work and possible strolls around the neighborhood after dinner. Does climbing up and down the stairs count?

Weekends are fun. I usually take a break from video workout and enjoy the outdoor with the family. We bike and hike a lot. In winter, we would go skiing. Or we would go camping when the weather allows. My two kids (9 and 5) can out-hike many adults. They get kind of crazy if they don't go outside, so it kind of force us to do something outdoor.

I work sitting down, but do a fair amount of active housework, garden work, and lots of active volunteer activities, plus I walk to as many errands as possible. So, I wish I were more active, but I really can't be, unless I start sitting in a hover squat position in front of my monitor, or bunny-hopping in the grocery store or doing squat thrust climbers waiting in line for a movie, etc.

So, like Kathryn, I am about a 5 in activity. I wish I worked in an active job though...sigh.

I rarley sit still and when I do...I get bored.
Today I cleaned my bedroom (floors, moved the furniture, cleaned the closet) then I cleaned the living room, then I drove an hour to pick up my neice, ran to the mall, ran to the grocery store, baked a cake, went for a run and now I am cooking dinner.
The majority of my days are pretty filled, and when I am working two jobs, I barely get a chance to workout.
Dr.Phil please help me sit on the couch for a little while!:)
Lori

>bunny-hopping in the grocery store

I think that's a great idea! We 5's should start doing that tomorrow!

Interesting question for a forum like this...we are all here posting because we do indoor video workouts because we don't have the time or live in a climate that allows us to get vigorous exercise outdoors.

I too live in a cold climate and do not ski. I used to crossX ski but once kids came into the picture that outdoor activity went. I bet many of us on this forum have given up outdoor activity because of small children. I love to hike, canoe, fish, ride horses, ride bikes, play volleyball, softball, field hockey, broom ball, swim, garden...But with four kids I rarely do any of those things anymore because I always seem to have one child too young to take on such outings. We do go camping alot and Dh will take the older ones canoeing but I am left at camp with the little ones. We are a very outdoor oriented family but it's just hard to do things when kids are so small. We also have horses and I rode one time last summer with the exception of riding in the arena which really doesn't count to me. By the time I get done giving the kids lessons it's time to start some adult thing like cook a meal or tend to the very large garden I have every summer or run an errand for my Dh...I am also his secretary/bookkeeper. So I've just resigned myself to the fact that I will be the hired hand for the next few years and until our youngest gets a little older I won't be doing very much riding...but I can look to the future and the day when the older ones can babysit so mother can go for a ride!

But as far as activity...I rarely have time to sit down during the day with kids to take care of, meals to cook and housework. I finally broke down and bought a laptop so it can sit on my kitchen counter so as I'm doing bookwork for the business I can also be doing other things without being tied to the computer in the office. With a family of six there is a continuous flow of dirty laundry as well. And then there are all of the kids activities to deal with...piano lessons, gymnastics, school sports, school programs. It just never ends. I'm making myself tired just typing this!

Besides my workouts I think I am pretty active, I play softball, that is a game and practice each week, I play the Spring and the Fall seasons. I take Kungfu twice a week. I have a totally sedentary sit down job but when I get home during the week I am moving until bedtime. On the weekends on Saturdays I clean house from the time I get up but I make myself stop by 5:00 PM. Sunday is my total rest, I bubble bath, put my feet up and read, get on the computer, watch TV, spend quality time with DH.

I take grandchildren to and from school. 16 miles round trip. 2 -3 times a day depending on which ones are here. I have one in half day kindergarten. I take them to the library and shopping. I spend a lot of time with them. I am not one to sit around. I have a hard time sitting through a movie without getting up and doing something. I am quiet by nature but still have to be active. I get up and find something to do. Having knee surgury is hard, I keep looking to try and do things, with my family trying to do it for me. I like to read but I have to put the book down and be active in between pages. I do oil paintings. I workout 6 days a week. Even when I used to do daycare for 5 children besides my own I worked out. I find myself lookig for cleaning chores or something I have been meaning to do, when I am idle to long. If someone is visiting they may see me get up and leave to do something. My husband and I have a fifth wheel and like to travel. I am not sure if this is what you mean. I am not really athletic as far as being involved in sports.

I have a very sedentary job but I try to get up every hour if not more often and walk around a bit and I do some yoga stretches in my office a couple of times a day. Not only is it healthier, but I honestly think I'm more productive and have better concentration when I sit back down.
