beating the body up

I so agree with you all!!!!

Oh thank you for this thread! I posted last weekend that I was starting a rest week because I was soooo burnt out and bone tired from weeks of heavy lifting. I am on day five and feel like I could take a month off.

You know, I am almost 45 years old. My body fat was recently measured at 16.4%. I have done marathons and triathlons in my day, biked a century, lifted until I nearly passed out. I am in shape enough to hike with my two DDs ages 8 and 6 (who kick butt on a 6 mile hike) and ride 15 miles with my DH (who is 51 and unstoppable). If I read this post, I would say, "Geez that woman is pretty awesome."

I mean at some point, I have to say I have arrived fitness wise. Well I have.

I think the key to anything for me is "Avoid boredom." And more importantly, "Loosen up and let go of control." In marriage, in job, in life. In exercise. After this rest week I am going to do workouts I like as much as eating chocolate. OK a tall order, but what the hell? Boot Camp comes to mind. Turbo Jam. Yoga classes. Walking the dog. Pillow fights. Curling a glass of wine to my lips. Who's with me????

You like Turbo Jam?

Julie,
I agree -- I need to lighten up on myself! (And I'll have a glass of wine with you!)

But about Turbo Jam ... I have Turbo Jam but haven't pushed myself to learn it. Is it really a good workout? Is it worth the time? I really want to see results from my workouts, or at least feel that it wasn't a waste of time. I get up at 5:00 in the morning, and want it to be worth the sleep I missed.

I guess I need a push on Turbo Jam. I should do a search for TJ threads, but since you brought it up, I thought I'd ask.

By the way, those are admirable accomplishments! Good for you!

I turned 39 a couple of weeks ago and have found that cutting back on cardio really works for me. This happened a couple of years ago though. I was pooped all the time, and so decided to focus more on weights than cardio, and it's really helped. I mostly do elliptical now, for cardio.

I've also started a total body rotation in hopes of saving some time and still seeing good results. As I get older I find myself less patient with long workouts or with "fluffy" training systems. I just want to get in, hit it, get out, and get on with the rest of the day, if you know what I mean!

As for diet, I have to say that I have not yet had the experience of having to watch what I eat beyond what I normally do.

Up until this year, I wouldn't look at any workout that wasn't advanced and would feel like a failure doing a Pre-mix!
Now, at 47, OVER it!!!!!
Got the new Cardio force and 40 minutes into it, stopped, bored, over the LONG cardio and put it up for trade.
Tried Squeeze Stronger yesterday as break and am crippled today - which I love, but the good kind of pain, and I didn't feel beat up after it.

Yup, going the shorter cardio, shorter workout way....and working - half assed-ly at making the diet as clean and organic and minimal meat as I can......

I'm thinking of taking time off from all video workouts except yoga/pilates and foam rollers until STS arrives.
I'm feeling so achey in my legs and glutes and it's not DOM's. Specifically I re-pulled my hamstring few weeks ago running. So I think a rest will do me good.

Kathryn I cannot believe I like Turbo Jam but I do. I am so NOT the dancy aerobunny type. I started boxing at the gym years ago so have a high standard in the kick box department. Tae Bo used to do it for me but not any more. Got Turbo Jam on sale and whaddya know, I dig it. Not extreme but can definitely be made harder. Punch Kick and Jam my fave. Also I find the moves really really work my abs. So let's drink to that!

As for these Squeeze workouts, they could fit the bill as well. I must order....

And I also want to say I am having a great hair day and girls, isn't that what it is all about?? :)

I am so happy to read posts like these. I am not yet at my 30's, but I do feel, after three kids, that my body has reeeeeeeally slowed down. I feel like there is something wrong because I can't keep up like I used to and I have aches - to read a bunch of fit and beautiful woman whom I admire share about how they workout now, and that it isn't superwoman workouts, is very encouraging. I know that I didn't start this thread, but thank you to everyone who shared. :)
