Beat the winter blues - 2/17

Good Morning everyone,

The wind is howling where I'm at and the weather is going to be crappy all day. Bleck!

This morning did Reebok AeroStep with Gin Miller, and oldie but goodie and a step workout that isn't all that intense and is mostly low impact. Went well although I was tired by the end of it. If this continues then I'll likely just do cardio videos that are divided into segments and then I'll do just one or two segments rather than the whole thing.

Shywolf- does it look like all the projects will be completed today as you thought?

Tracy- are you planning to follow a rotation or are you just going to do what feels good for a while? Where did you get the info. on the tank top rotation? I'm enjoying my one week lifting for strength with cardio, one week lifting for endurance with cardio rotation that I made up.

I am keeping a workout log this year so I can track how many days in the year I will have worked out in addition to what types and titles of workouts I use most frequently (could lead to a good purging by the end of the year). What has impressed me more than anything is that so far this year I have rarely repeated a workout (which could also be scary because I'm almost 2 months into a year and still have not done all my workouts). Sometimes I think is my collection to big? And other times I get excited by the variety I have. I'd say I probably have about 70 workouts (this includes workouts on 1 DVD). How many does everyone else have?

Anyway, should drink some more fluids and see about trying to 'eat' some morex( .

Hi everyone-

I ended up looking through my workouts yesterday and chose Weights and Cardio since I hadn't done it in so long. Unfortunatly I wasn't happy w/it... not enough concentration on either one. I felt like the cardio never got high enough and the weights never were concentrated enough. Today I'm going to go back to either Step Blast or BootCamp and if there's enough time I'll add Power Hour.

Sabine, good idea keeping a workout journal. I'm going to start that because I have weeks where I feel really fit and my clothes fit nicely and then there are weeks that I'm doing a slight variety and I'm just "off" a little. That's where I feel right now. I have the energy to do strong workouts (and sometimes the time) but I my body doesn't seem to be reacting like I want it to.

How many workouts? I just boxed up any of the Firm tapes I don't do anymore to give to my sister (there are about 12 of them)- will keep Upper Body, Firm Abs and the Body Sculpts plus a few "oldies" (Standing Legs and Lower Body Work). Otherwise, its just most of the Cathe tapes now. (I have probably 35 tapes around from the past 12 years that I don't even look at anymore) If anyone's interested I'll do an inventory and send them to whoever wants them.

Tracy, so glad you could workout again! What's your plan for today?

Joy- did you have a good long weekend?

Lori, I'm happy to hear you took some time off and had some desserts!! I'm back on track, too, but I can't say I didn't enjoy the chocolate.

Shywolf, did you move back in to your "space"?

Pinky, feel my vibes coming your way!! I have a silly question- do you speak Tagalag? We have a large Filipino community here in DC so I was curious about that...

Lorisax, hope all is well w/you!

Elizabeth, what workout is scheduled for today? Good luck!

I'll try to stop in later- we're having a pary Saturday night but that forces us to get the house in order and every room is a disaster at this point.x(

Hi all,
It was a wonderful long weekend. I caught up on some of the goings on. Welcome Elizabeth. Glad to see you are back Tracy. I know what you mean about the mess, my first husband was like that. Thankfully, my current (and last, I hope -unless Sir Paul is free again) is much neater.
Sabine, thanks for the update on humble beginnings. I have been wondering. This dvd stuff ALWAYS takes longer than they think. How many tapes? I don't know. I've given away so many. I used to have EVERY FIRM except Ballroom aerobics (pre goodtimes) Now I'm down to maybe 15 of them. I either traded, sold or gave away the rest. So far there is only one I wish I had kept, the cardio something with Carissa Foster. There was actually some choreography in the step routine (she did a pump repeater for example- although she called it something else)

Well Brenda and Lori I fell off the no sugar wagon and have been enjoying desserts. I won't go in to the details, so as not to tempt you.}(

Hello Pinky, Lori and Shywolf.
Must run to a meeting.
OH btw, I did something NEW (for me) yesterday. Hot Steps - Kari Anderson. I had a lot of fun. She is just so sweet and pleasant. And it was kind of nice not to kill myself either (1) with intensity from Cathe or (2) with complicated stuff from Christi. Oh it was complicated enough - and I watched it first, which is a big help.

see ya later,
-joy

Hi everyone,

Sabine, I started keeping a log in September, and I enjoy going through my past workouts/rotations. There are times when I say, Wow, I did all this?:) I should've started a log as soon as I started with my Cathe workouts. I have 4 lost months, undocumented and forgotten. I made a calendar in PageMaker and taped it to an old sketchpad. I write my weights in the empty boxes.:) Seventy workouts? I probably only have a third of what you have. Listen, you might be able to help me out. Can you recommend some non-boring intermediate step aerobic workouts that are kinder to the knees?

Tracy, I'm glad you're having fun working out again. Hurts so good, doesn't it?:) Yes, I do a lot of weight lifting. On my strength weeks, I work out each body part twice a week; on my endurance weeks, thrice a week. I consider kickboxing a full-body workout on its own, especially when I wear weighted gloves while doing it.

Brenda, it's not a stupid question. There are more than a hundred languages/dialects spoken in my small homeland of more than 7,000 islands, so you still might meet a Filipino who doesn't speak Tagalog. But yes, I do speak it although my native tongue is Cebuano.

Elizabeth, looks like you're loving your workouts. Cathe is quite addictive. KPC is wonderful! I wish Cathe would make a kickboxing series. I love stepping but my knees are starting to hurt and kickboxing is a great substitute for it. Heck, stepping only works your lower body, but kickboxing hits everything.:)

ShyWolf, how're your floors looking? I'd love to install aerobic flooring in my workout space, but it wouldn't match the decor in my bedroom. I would love to have a workout ROOM with a wall of mirrors and a punching bag in the corner. One of my biggest, sweetest daydreams...:)

Lorihart, great to see you back. Half of IMAX 2 and 80 minutes of running. Wow... and I haven't done one cardio workout this week yet.:p

Well ladies, yesterday was PLB. I was dragging for some reason. And my knees aren't happy today. They didn't mind the last session, and I used the same weights yesterday as I did then. My upper body is still sore from last Sunday's PS. I've already reached my goal of bench pressing 50 lbs., but I can only do 2 sets out of 4. I don't do the extra DB presses in PS chest, instead, I do flyes so I can do 2 sets of regular flyes and Cathe's superset. Anyway, the 4 sets of 50 lbs. is still something I need to work towards. I think 45 lbs. for my lower body is as far as I should go because I'm starting to see bulk there. Not much, but enough for me to rethink going up to 50 max for PLB. I'm not sure if I'm up for cardio today (I was thinking Step Blast) but the afternoon is still young, and I might be up for something lighter...

Hellos to Stacy-MN and Lorisax.

Hello to everyone-

Just finished up PLB and oh my!! Two weeks off is a long time and my poor body is feeling it!
To answer your question about my plans for rotation, Sabine, I read some different variations on the tank-top rotation on videofitnessfanatics.com (or one of those other boards) and I am kind of devising my own. I am going to try and lift upper body 2x, lower 1x and then do 1 combined endurance workout per week (throwing cardio in of course). My younger sister is getting married in 3 months, and I am the Matron of Honor (ugh! I hate the sound of that) so I am setting myself the goal of looking as unmatronly as possible. I have to wear a very strappy little dress that shows lots of arm, chest and back, so I want my upper body to look strong!

It looks like we are a bunch of note-keepers on this check-in. I also love keeping logs of my workouts. I started doing it after my first baby was born and I was in the process of getting back into shape.

I hope everyone has a great day - we are supposed to get snow here again (when will spring come?)

Tomorrow I am going to do one of the IMAX's for a cardio day (my sore little muscles need a day of rest).
Tracy

Hello everyone! Hope you're all well. I did Timesaver #2 today- doing #3 tomorrow (I'm SO creative with rotations!:) - I read with awe at all of your posts about rotations, your level of activity, weights- yikes!- and I'm learning alot so Thanks everyone!). Did stability ball work today for the first time ever and *it ain't easy!*:D - not that I would expect that from Cathe. Didn't try the pikes on it- was afraid I'd fall on my face- gonna work up to it... But had a great time- esp the kicks (love to kick and punch!-).

Sabine- how are you today? You're so right to listen to your body- sounds like you have some workouts to keep you pretty busy!:) I just started keeping a journal this year (as many of you are) as well- mostly at first to keep track of my heartrate and info from my monitor. Now I'm now tracking weights with Cathe.

Pinky- take care of those knees, OK? - you Wonderwoman You!...
:) BTW, what Chinese dialect did your father speak? I *speak* Cantonese (according to natives, I speak with an accent- an American one... :p ) but as with most things, if you don't use it, ya' lose it!.

Brenda- thanks for asking and for the luck. Hope everything goes well with the cleanup for the party! Take some time for YOU, OK?

Hellos to Traci, Stargazer and anyone I may have missed. Going to do a yoga stretch now. Take care all!

Elizabeth

HI Gals,
Sounds like everyone is doing o.k.I worked early today and all day.I got up at 5:50:eek: I use to enjoy getting up early but in the winter monthes, its so dark out, cold, and its hard to get my butt out of bed!
Eating wasn't great again today.I didn't eat much but I could have made better decisions.I had a nice salad for my dinner though:)
I am feeling a little lazy so I may take a quick nap before I workout.
I still haven't come up with a rotation.I really need to get my butt in gear, come up with a rotation,a clean eating plan and get go'in! Uh,where as the motivation gone? I don't have any problems with my workouts, its just my eating habits.
I plan on doing chest, back and cardio tonight.I am also going to try and not eat anything else tonight.Wish me luck...anyway,I will check back after I workout.
Lori:)

Howdy Hi All;

Well I thought that I would be able to use my workout space today but not yet as the media stuff has not been hooked up yet and I would probably zap myself if I even attempted to try to hook everything up . So no workout today; guess my feet need the rest anyway. I was planning on Bootcamp, hopefully I can do it tommorrow up in my dd's room.

i'VE BEEN ON My FEET ALOT LATELY AND MY PLANTAR FACIITIS is extremely painful. I'm thinking I may need to get a referral for a podiatrist soon.

The floor project is all but done 'cept for a little corner that needs to be grouted and then the entire floor needs to be sealed or rather all the grout between the tiles need to.

Sabine so glad to hear that your coming along although you still have mouth pain. I have Aerostep too, and I have not done that one in years! I always remember it being alot of fun for me.

Gosh as far as workout tapes I have all of Cathe's except for her Step n Motion, PS series and ab hits. I have about 4 or 5 Gin Miller tapes :), 7 of The Firm tapes (not the classics ...sold those but 5 that were made for 'firm believers' in the clam shell case). The 3 original Tae bo tapes that I never touch anymore; my 13 yo daughter likes those to do. Hmmm about 3 yoga tapes and a CIA tape with Christi I think ...LOL sold alot of my CIA'a via ebay, half.com and traded many out via videofitness' too. I pretty much got rid of alot of tapes ...and started collecting Cathe's workouts starting in '96.

I've also started a workout log too, to figure out if I need to weed any out by the end of the year.

Pinky how are you're 'guests' behaving?

Hellos to Brenda, Tracy, Joy, Lori , Lori Sax, and welcome Elizabeth!

Hope all have a great day or what's left of it anyway :p

Hi again everyone, I decided to just cool it for today. My hamstrings are sore (in a nice way), and I don't want to overwork my knees.

Elizabeth, my paternal great-grandfather came from Macau. He went back, leaving my great-grandmother to fend for herself and her family, so unfortunately, I never learned to speak a work of Chinese.

ShyWolf, my guests are pretty much well behaved, believe it or not. But it's still early into their extended stay so there's no telling what the winds will bring. My husband, to give him credit, is really doing his part to keep everyone "comfortable". But like I said before, I feel kinda sorry for him as he's somehow caught in between. At the same time, I want to whack his butt.}(

I'll check in again tomorrow. If I feel better, I might do KPC with weighted gloves on. Now that really hurts...

Pinky

Hi Everyone,
Im back..its late but Im back. I took a nap around 7:30 and I slept for an hour:) I love sleep! But that got me refreshed for my workout and that beat me out again!
I did PU(chest and back-up only) and CTX Chest and back, then I did a 70 min run and the other 1/2 of Imax 2.I had lots of energy and I even considered doing legs and glutes b/c i really need to get a leg workout in this week.
My plan is to do tri,bic and shoulders tomorrow.(ctx and PUB)Do legs on Thursday and then do a total body weight workout on Saturday. We will see how it goes.If it suits my schedule I think I will follow a rotation like this for a while.it won't be so bad on other weeks b/c I could start on monday.
Anyway,must hit the sack.....more sleep:)
Lori:)
