Legumes for the Lasses
Eat your beans to guard against a common cancer.
Eating beans at least twice per week may reduce the risk of breast cancer, a new study of women reveals. The fiber, flavonols, and other beneficial phytochemicals in beans may explain their cancer-fighting powers. Good choices include black or red beans, garbanzo beans, and soybeans.

the more you fart the better you feel,
so let's have beans for every meal!

I love beans! We had black beans and rice for dinner last night with some shredded chicken and corn smothered in chili powder. yummy!! Now I know that it is good for something other than my colon! Thanks, Debbie!

I believe that completely....:)...my favorites are pinto and anasazi. I probably eat them more than twice a week though...http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/w/thumbs.gif[/img] Carole

Renee and Missy, you are too funny. I have heard both those versions before! :7 Missy, your meal last night sounds sooo good. I love black beans and rice together. I usually add tomatoes but your recipe sounds so much better. Thanks for sharing.

Which brings up the embarrassing question of what you do to prevent those disturbing sounds (and/or odors?) when one is working out with a bunch of strangers on a Cathe Road Trip?

Mmmm, Ilove black beans too! And it just so happens, I got this recipe yestereday at Trader Joe's:

Two cans of organic black beans, drained and rinsed
2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped,
1/2 a cup of basil leaves, finely chopped,
3 Tbs. basalmic vinegar
1/2 a cup olive oil
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes

Combine ingredients; let sit for at least an hour. Toss to blend before serving.

At the store, the presenter used bottled basalmic vinegarette and it was very good. I went a tad heavy on the basil but no one complained and I think it will be better today, the second day! :)

I am a big fan of 'Greens and Beans'

and I make a salad with curly green lettuce, navy beans, fat free shredded cheddar & scallions topped with salsa. On the side a toasted tortilla goes well Yum!!!

'Beano' works well taken with the first bite of the meal to prevent or minimize embarrassing and sometimes painful gas.

Beans, beans, musical fruit. The more you eat, the more you toot. The more you toot, the better you feel. Lets have beans for e-ve-ry meal.

I love to make a salad of black soy, garbanzo, kidney and green beans, with some added pimentos (sometimes black olives or artichoke hearts), and a splash of zesty Italian dressing, served on a bed of romaine. Easy to make (I use canned beans, well rinsed), and tasty.

Make sure that everyone has had beans, then no one can pin the blams on you!

There are some digestive enzymes that can help. www.veganessentials.com sells some, as does www.dixiediner.com . YOu can also find "Beano" or "say yes to beans."

I tried this last night and loved it! What an excellent and EASY recipe. I will do this one often. I did sprinkle a little parm. cheese on top and that was good too.

Thanks for sharing!

I have been adding it to brown rice putting it into a w.w. tortilla with guac and salsa and enjoying a simple delicious and nutritious meal. :) tastes better the second day, I think. I love parmesan cheese and I'll have to try that next time we make the recipe.
