Battle of the spouses!

I am very happily married to my husband. I am 5 feet 3, 115 pounds approximately and in very good shape. My husband is 6 feet 1, 190 pounds and also in good shape. My legs are freakishly strong for my size, especially my inner thighs. So, me and my husband always have competitions with each other. Whenever it comes to leg endurance, I outlast him. We do the wall squat, you know where you sit at a 90 degree angle, I have always outlasted him. He cannot squat for more than 1 minute, I can go well pass that. We will have wrestling matches as well and whenever I get him on the ground, my legs take over and I really dominate him. I feel bad because he really does try his best. Has anyone experienced being physically stronger than their spouse? Should I let up on him when we wrestle once in a while? But, at the same time, it feels good knowing that I can take a much bigger person and hold him down on the ground just with my legs! It shows my strength. Any thoughts would help. Thanks.

I had to giggle a bit when I read this, I wouldn't let up, LOL, I am so glad you two are like that, that so inspired me to get back on track LOL. You go girl! and that is so awesome of your strength!

I wouldn't get too smug over it because I'm quite sure if he wanted to arm wrestle you, you would NOT win!

Hey LeslieMarie: Glad I can inspire you to want to kick some butt! Remember, as women, our legs have, pound for pound, just about equal strength as a man's, some studies even show we have even more leg power. I guess I will not let up, GIRL POWER!!!!! ha, ha.

Sounds like fun! I'm 5'7" and about 130 and my SO is 6' and about 180 and I have absolutely NO HOPE of ever besting him. He's freakishly strong for his size and can pick me up like I weigh nothing and pretty much throw me across the room. We wrestle (the dog usually joins in) and I try my hardest and he hardly tries, but it's fun anyway;)

Robin, that is absolutely amazing!

I am also 5'3", 115 lbs. and I have the weakest legs in the world. They look strong, but I fight to stay on a bicycle for more than 10 miles, and can't do an elliptical for more than two minutes before my legs give out. My husband, who does NO weight work at all and is very sedentary, is built like the Hulk and is freakishly strong in every way. Talk about an endomorph! If we were to wrestle, I would lose in an instant. It's interesting how different people are.

Hey Nancy: My legs are very strong, it comes from gymnastics, pilates and yoga, that is where I get my strength, or have gotten it from.

There are studies showing that men are stronger and women have greater endurance. Here's a tidbit from the Sports Medicine website: "Women, on the other hand, tend to have a greater endurance capacity due to a greater reliance on fat metabolism during exercise; thus a glycogen-sparing effect might delay fatigue during long-duration events."

If you google it, you'll find many different sites which explain the phenomena. It's so funny that you use squatting. When I first read that, squatting was what they did to test in that particular instance. I kick my husbands butt in squatting. :)
