Bare Escentuals

LaughingWater

Cathlete
By chance today, I ran across a little kit from Bare Escentuals and decided to try it. I don't wear much in the way of make up ~ blush, eye shadow for lining my eyes, lipstick, and a cover-up stick for when I break out ~ but after hearing such great reviews, I thought what the heck...for $25, I'll give it a whirl.

The eye shadow and liner are so freakin' cool! The colors are rich, and they go on very nicely.

I dusted a bit of the all-over face powder on my cheeks, and it's very pretty. I'll have to wait and see if it aggravates my acne. *crosses fingers*

Those of you who are BE fans, do you have any recommendations? Any favorite products? If I can tolerate the face powder, I'll want to try other stuff, and either way I'll definitely head to BE's site to check out more eye color and brushes.

Thanks! :)

Hi LW:

I use Bare Minerals, but essentially the same thing... I found it earlier this year when I was looking for an alternative for liquid foundation as I couldn't find anything that wouldn't break out my skin. I'm with you and normally only use makeup to even out my skin tone, eyeshadow, liner and mascara, and truly believe less is more! I found that the eyeshadow that came with the kit was a little challenging because it was a loose powder and I didn't have proper application brushes, and I tended to get more on the counter than on my eyes so quickly abandoned that for my ol' standby shadow, so haven't gotten back to using that, but love the "consealor" to hide all the small red discolorations I have in my skin and under-eyes... and the bronzer gives just that little hint of sun, without over-doing it! And I only use the finishing powder (mineral veil) on rare occasions when I want that extra flawless and finished look... I have noticed that my skin is clearer when I make sure to wash every night and use a Vitamin C lotion for dry skin (however, my skin is naturally oily) and BM does not irritate my adult acne any more so than any other makeup... in fact quite the opposite. but I realize everyone is different, so hope it will work for you! It's just so light and you don't get that "made up" feeling!

If I had one suggestion it would be to not over-do the powder... the first few days as I was getting used to how it all worked, I ended up getting too much and had to wipe it off and start over, but now that I have learned, I LOVE it!

The other suggestion is to invest in good, SOFT brushes (and different ones for different items - blending, base application, eyeshadow, bronzer/blush, etc)... sometimes the ones that come with these kits are OK, but you will definately get much better results, once you figure out how it all goes on, to get nice soft brushes. they help the smooth application and when you are trying to blend everything they won't poke you in the face with loose or irregular/rough fibers... I hate that!

I have been using the same starter kit that I got over 6 months ago and I'm almost ready to replace a few items, mostly foundation, so a little goes a long way, but I wouldn't go back to liquid or anything else EVER!

Enjoy your purchase!

I LOVE the Gold Gossimar (sp) but can't find it anywhere!!! I've been using Bare Minerals for several years and love it! I was at a football game today and it was raining pretty steadily. At one point, I looked in a mirror and my make up looked just as it did when I left the house....even with all the humidity and about 5 hrs later.

I love BE products! Favorites are the Prime Time foundation primer, the kabuki brush, summer bisque, clear radiance, and their lip glosses.

LOVE Bare Escentuals! I've been using their products for over a year and my skin has never looked or felt better! I use everything - foundation primer, foundation, warmth, blush and mineral veil. I just discovered their eyeshadows (having purchased a beginner shadow kit with the proper brushes - which is a good deal because the brushes can be expensive). Let me tell you - I've always had a tough time with eye shadow creasing on my oily lids - NOT with BE eyeshadows. Luckily, I have a BE store at my local mall and the saleslady convinced me to buy the eyeshadow primer -- best thing I ever did. I've used plenty of eyeshadow primers in the past, but nothing works like this (or maybe it's a combination of the primer and the wonderful shadow). She even showed me a trick to make the liner stay on and go on more like a liquid liner - instead of mixing the liner with water, mix it with a little bit of the primer ... Can I tell you that my eyeshadow goes on at 6:30 a.m. and is STILL ON - crease free - when I take it off at 9:00 p.m.!!!

I also love their Buxom Lips gloss... they just came out with a new line of it that uses a brush so it goes on a little heavier and gives you more color. And it feels good - a little tingly for lip plumping action. LOVE IT!

If you have a BE store anywhere near you - go to it. They also will give you a card and for every $10 you spend, they will stamp the card. Once you've spent $120 you get $10 off you next purchase.

Brushes

Oh - forgot to say I think it is important to use the brushes that come from BE - they are specially made to hold the minerals in place and you buff it all over you face - regular makeup brushes don't work well with their product - I've tried them.

I love some of the Bare Minerals eyecolors especially.
I also buy www.larenim.com products (they have sample sizes, that go pretty far for me, and their kabuki brush is fabulous! Very soft. And non-animal, which is important for me).

I LOVE BE Mineral Veil!!! I also use the BE eye liner/shadow and mascara. Just foundation and lipgloss/lip liner I still prefer Bobbi Brown, I have dry skin but the BE foundation causes skin breakout for me.

The kabuki brush is AWESOME!!!

Thanks for the information, ladies! :D I'm having waaay too much fun looking over their products both at BE.com and QVC. I bought some blush and plan on experimenting with that, see how my skin likes it. If that works out then, oh boy...I think I found a new obsession. :p

Apparently BE does indeed aggravate my acne. Grrr. I actually developed lesions of the cystic nature, which is unusual for me. After doing some net searches, I discovered other acne-prone individuals have experienced the same thing.

I'd like to thank everyone for their help though. :) I so wanted to be part of the BE Club.

I'd also like to thank those who have mentioned Everyday Minerals here on the forum (I found ya'll via the Search function). I'm giving EM blushes a try next.

You might try larenim mineral powders. They don't have the added ingredients that some mineral makeups do, and they also have a treatment powder just for acne-prone skin (and their sample sizes last for quite a while).

Thank you, Kathryn. :) I'm going to add Larenim to my list.

I don't wear much, so I don't even need foundation or a finishing powder. I just need a good blush.

Thanks. :) I can still use their eye makeup though, which totally rocks. Plus I bought my kits from QVC, which means I was able to return everything and get my money back. *eyes Cathe's "Stretch Max"*

Here's another link I just found:

http://hcferris.wordpress.com/2008/12/11/top-8-safe-cosmetic-brands-in-the-us/

I have a lot of reading to do!

Back to the database: I always hated mascara. My husband loves the thick, fluttery eyelash look, but I cannot stand putting that stuff near my eyes. Every once in a great while, I would try (and still hate) it, but after looking up the particular brand I bought, now I can happily toss it in the garbage. If he loves it so much, he can wear it. :p

I've read that BE face powder (not the foundation) can actually break you out because it has corn starch in it which the bacteria feeds off of and it makes acne worse.

I love BE face colors. I have many, many blushes and eye shadoes, glimmers, liners, etc. Total fun to play around with it! Recently Ulta had full size blushes that had two colors for $9.99. I will have to come back and tell you the colors but I absolutely love them! Sometimes I buy kits off of QVC or listen to the BE presentation when they're on to get ideas for colors and how to apply.

I now use a foundation by Clinique and I apply it with a wet foundation brush and I've never been happier with my foundation. I'm 38 and my skin for the past year or so has been changing. I had the most difficult time finding something I liked.

I'm back to report that Everyday Minerals is working wonderfully for me. My skin is so clear, and both the blushes and concealer don't seem to aggravate it at all. I'm playing with some foundation samples too (also using them as a spot concealer), and they work so well. *does happy dance*

Again, thanks to those who mentioned EM previously. And I'll continue to keep Larenim in mind.
