I have used Bare Escentuals for about 6 or so years and I LOVE it. It does take a little getting used to, as far as applying. You have to be careful not to put too much on or you can look "shiny". You will need to experiment and practice and follow the directions enclosed with it.....basically, use the amount in the lid, swirl, tap off excess and buff into the skin. I then use a synthetic concealer brush to lay the minerals down a little heavier where I want to conceal, i.e., under eyes, around nose...etc. I also highly recommend the Warmth or Warm Radiance to put a little color in your face. When I don't wear mine, people ask me if I'm sick. Bare Minerals are great in the humidity also. You can sweat in it (i.e., exercise) or sleep in it and it won't break you out. I also suggest the Mineral Veil for your T-zone if you prefer a more matte look, as the minerals tend to have a natural luminoscity and do make you appear to glow a bit. I tend to like this feature, as I'm 46 and you tend to lose the lustre in your skin as you age.
Good luck and if you have any other questions, please feel free to post here, as I'm a true Bare Minerals person!
ETA: It will not dry you out AT ALL. I have extremely dry skin and it doesn't even make your lines show under your eyes. It is not AT ALL like a powder. I apply moisturizer first and wait a while before I apply my minerals, but my face is always dewey and never dry.
