Hi Cathe,

I've been working out with some old Jane Fonda tapes and am looking for another challenge. Your Maximum Intensity Strength tape looks interesting, except that some exercises use a barbell. I had back surgery (a lumbar laminectomy, not too serious) a few years ago and the doctor said that power lifting was out, but dumbbells and ankle weights were OK. Can the barbell exercises be done with dumbbells? On the other hand, do the exercises on the tape qualify as power lifting?

Thanks in advance, Craig

Hi Craig! Just to be clear, Power Lifting is a sport in and of itself. I do not do any power lifting in any of my workouts. But if you are using the term loosely and are simply referring to it as heavy weight training, then I can help you with your question.

Maximum Intensity Strength is a total body weight training workout that can be done with or without the use of a barbell. If you prefer to use dumbbells for the whole workout, that is fine. You can lift as heavy or light as you prefer so you have total control as to how much weight you will be handling in this workout. If you are unsure about it, please read our description of the workout and or print it out for your physician to read. Your doctor knows your limitations as a result of your surgery and will be better able to assist you with this decision. Here is a link to the description...Take Care!
