Barbell vs. dumb bells

I'm a recent graduate from the firm to Cathe and love it! I currently have IMAX2 and C&W and am previewing her other DVD's to see which ones to buy next. I notice that she uses a barbell in many of them but with all of my Firm equipment plus the Club Step and High Step, I just don't have room for a barbell as well. Can I get by with out it just using the dumb bells? What do you all do?

Yes you can. I am in the same boat you are: lots of dumbbells, no barbell and no room. I use dumbbells for everything and just hold them in a like fashion, or hold them as I would for the firm. If it's heavy enough, it'll work!
 
I agree that you don't need a barbell for Cathe's workouts. However, as you progress and go heavier and heavier (especially for legs) a barbell is easier to use. For example, in Slow & Heavy Legs and PLB, I use a 50 pound barbell for squats. I don't think I'd be comfortable using two 25 pound dumbbells for squats.

Until the time comes where you want to go heavier, dumbbells will work just fine.

Thanks for the feedback - that's exactly what I needed to know! I think as I get more Cathe DVD's I'll be rotating my Firms(w/equipment) out and then I'll make room for a barbell and heavier weights! :)
