bahamas

I see you're interested in honeymooning in the Carribean. If you decide on staying in the Bahamas, go for Paradise Island right off of Nassau. Very nice Island. The Atlantis is the granddaddy of resorts there. However, the rooms aren't large. I've also heard that they are a tad run down. On the flip side, the grounds and beach are stunning!

The downside of the Bahamas is that you're on Bahamian time meaning that you'll get your food when they're ready to serve (it could take a while).

Have you considered St. Thomas? That's a US owned island with easy access to St. Josh. Or, perhaps consider St. Martin/Maarten depending on whether you stay on the Dutch or French side. I've attempted to go to this Island 3 times but mother nature (or striking airlines) have prevented me from going here. However, I've known several people who absolutely love this island.

Either way, you will have a wonderful time honeymooning in the Carribean. I would, however, stay away from Jamaica as poverty is high as is crime.

My dh and i went to nassau for 7 days in august. we stayed at the westing resort. it was fabulous, but not all-inclusive so it ended up being VERY expensive. there is not a whole lot to do on the island and off the resort property it is not really very pretty. The beach is ok and getting food or drinks takes forever. i would say to completely avoid a booze cruise. big waste of $. watered down drinks. it lasts 3 hrs and no one gets drunk. i have heard that paradise island was alot nicer. we were going to go to sandals there for our honeymoon, but i did a post about it and have since changed my mind. i don't really have any desire to go back to the bahamas myself. some people love it though. have fun wherever you go and good luck finding the perfect place. there are so many to choose from.

jes:)

The Virgin Islands are also very cool! We have been to the Atlantis on Paradise Island-and we were not to impressed with it.The rooms are not very nice-especially for what we payed for them. The service was horrible too.YEs they are verrrryy slow!!!I have heard St. Thomas is awesome-check into the Ritz Carlton!:)

It really depends on what you're looking for on a vacation. I have been to both the Eastern and Western Caribbean several times. Each Island has it's own personality.

I personally did not like either St. Maarten or St. Thomas but do love Cozumel.

The Ritz Carlton on St. Thomas is awesome. My friend and I stayed there and really enjoyed it.

As you can see, any island has its pros and cons. It just depends on what you want to do.

I have visited the Bahamas 3 times.

The first time as a spring break thing (1995, stayed in what is now called Wyndham Nassau Resort on Cable Beach). Had a great room, wonderful view, beautiful beach. This was my first time at a beach resort, so I thought it was great. However, everything was SO expensive. The food was terribly expensive. I lost 5 lbs in 5 days due to lack of food. The cheapest thing we found was cornbread at the Radisson next door. BTW -- it is the best cornbread I've ever had.

Few years later (1998? stayed next door at the Radisson). Room was old and run-down. Bathroom door locked such that me and my SO got locked inside a few times (which makes for a hilarious story). Beach wasn't as great as I remembered. Of course, I believe a hurricane was rolling in -- so it is hard to say what the beach was really like. Had same cornbread :)

Took a cruise in 2001 which stopped at Paradise Island. Looked around the Atlantis property but didn't stay. It looked nice and the beach was good.

Honestly, I still haven't found a place that beats Cancun/Playa Del Carmen for a beach vacation. They have the best beaches, best prices, and good service. The Ritz Carlton in Cancun is FANTASTIC -- and quite a bit cheaper than the Ritz at most other places in the world. My SO and I stayed there for my birthday a couple of years ago and it was heaven. The food is V. expensive though. We opted for the upper floors that have the "Club" access (or something like that). Essentially, they put out snacks for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and evening sweets for free. We ate all meals except dinner there. It's worth the couple hundred extra because a couple of lunches alone would end up costing that much. For a less expensive option, try the All-Inclusive Royal Hideaway in PLaya Del Carmen.

Oh...I SO want to go on vacation now...
