bad hair dayz...

I'm just whining a little bit here... I got my hair cut a couple of weeks ago, and let's just say that it isn't the best cut I've had. My sylist and I had a communication breakdown (I said shorter meaning higher off my collar, she thought I meant closer to my head). I look like a boy in back! I hate it. My daughter (who is always honest with me) said it's not as bad as I think it is, but today my husband mentioned it, and my boss said a kind of hurtful thing about it just a few moments ago. It's TTOM and I'm sensitive, I have my husband's office holiday party on Saturday and I just want to put a bag over my head nad cry! Ugh... I know it will grow, but it will take a long time, I fear.

Okay...enough of this. There are people out there with much bigger problems...

Is it super short all around, like a pixie cut? (I'm trying to imagine it.)

Short hair can be very, very beautiful. Other thoughts:

1) I swear my hair was the healthiest it had ever been when it was short. I do all kinds of things to it as it grows, then I cut it all off again.

2) Short hair allows you to show off your face.

3) You'll save on shampoo and conditioner. Woo!

4) There's nothing to tie back when you work out. (Love that.)

5) You can still see on windy days.

Buy some pretty rhinestone clips and place them strategically in your hair. Play with your eye makeup, get some pretty new blush and lipstick. Now is the time to show off your face! Get a new top or two that shows off your neck, collarbone, and shoulders. And don't forget the necklace!

You're so sweet! I actually had it cut like Victoria Beckham BEFORE her pixie; I just wanted it trimmed some, but she really cut the back short; the front is to my chin and it's a really severe angle from back to front. It just needs to grow some and then I can get the front trimmed to blend it all in. I know I'll love it in a couple of months, but it's just letting it grow that's hard. I just wish people wouldn't mention it right now... :(

I have the same cut! The angled bob, right? That's one of my favorites!

Listen, I don't care what your boss or anyone else tells you, that's a damn cute cut. (And may my words repeat in your head whenever someone dares to tell you different.) It's very cool, as the back is funky and the front is soft and frames the face well.

I used velcro rollers in the back to give myself a little more height, and I kept the front sleek and curled in towards my chin. This works great when it's first cut.

Now it's longer, and I sometimes use velcro rollers around the top just to give my hair a soft wave.

You wear the heck out of that cut and be proud! :D

I can totally relate - back in August, my hairdresser (relatively new, she had already given me a couple of so-so cuts) gave me what was essentially a mullet! I brought in a pic of Lisa Rinna's hair (well, 4 or 5 pics) and my hair was way longer than hers so this woman cuts it really short in the front and left it so long in the back. I was devastated! I went to someone else to fix it and suffered through until going back to my old hairdresser a few weeks ago who has restyled it and it will look good as it grows. After that mullet cut I was DEVASTATED... even though I knew there were worse things that could happen than a bad haircut. I just didn't want to show my face anywhere. Everyone else said they loved it (after I had it fixed), except for one young kid at work who mentioned my mullet hair - very mean. Every day I would look in the mirror and hate hate hate my hair... but today when I style my hair, I actually like it (although I can't wait for it to grow a couple more inches! Hang in there - hair grows and you'll look back on this and laugh a bit. I do that now.

OMG! The Modern Mullet?!! You poor thing! I just hate it when people make snarky comments - my boss knows I'm unhappy about my hair and still had to make a little dig. Oh, well. I think I know the reason why, so that makes it a bit more tolerable. =]

Thanks to you lovely ladies!! You rock my socks!!!

Nothing modern about my mullet when I had it - it was HIDEOUS!! I am wishing I took pictures to laugh about it now... was so traumatized from it I secretly wished I could sue the hairdresser for pain and suffering

My hairdresser and I had a communication breakdown yesterday too. I told her what I was thinking, she smiled and nodded. And I sat and watched her do something totally different. Oh well, it's just hair. At least it's long enough I can pin it up until it grows out. I have naturally curly hair, and she's apparently one of those hair stylists that think curly hair behaves the same as straight hair. I WISH!!

I also feel your pain! That's no fun to have it happen right before all the holiday festivities... Hope you are able to find a creative way to get the most out of what you have! Work it! :) LW has some great suggestions on how to accessorize! do a search for some short cut styles and see if you can find any up-do's that would work in the interum...

about 8 months ago I had enough of my current stylist (young and sweet - but LOTS to learn about customer service and Hair) and her not listening to me AT ALL! **I pay YOU to do what I ask, not what you think** I do understand that there are just some styles that don't work for some people and some types of hair, and depend on these people to guide and advise, but not to completely ignore!

I would go through the whole picture thing, give the "what works best for my hair is..." and "I use XZY products..." and she continued to do her own thing... after the 3rd time (just weeks before my wedding in May) I decided enough was enough... I made it a point to "interview" my next stylist and made sure she had some expertice in blond, short hair... I hate hate hate having all those cut marks in the back! I think that we are now communicating on the same wavelength because as my hair has grown I am very happy with the interum style and I actually think that some of her in-between cuts have made me reconsider my style choice in general!

I had a cut similar to maybe to musician "Pink" just not as messy but super short and wanted to grow it into a Victoria inverted bob a-symetric style! It has been about 4 months now, and this is usually about the point where I give up because it's just not working for me and cut it all off... BUT... this time, I have stumbled upon a shorter version of the Lisa Renna cut, that really seems to work for me! my next appt is in a few weeks and I am going to switch gears a bit and have her refine the way I am currently wearing it! I LOVE it! a few curls with the iron on the back top to give it a bit of body, and a few curls with the iron to flip all the way around the bottom, and DONE! Right now it is about half way to the Victoria cut, and we are working in the inverted back shaping and it really works, but I will just have to accept that my hair is not made for being long... It is fine (lots of it though) and very board straight and I don't like the flat straight look... was hoping that it would be more fluffy like some of the photos LaughingWater posted... ain't gonna happen, so I'm glad I fell into this style!

best of luck to you and hope you get through the rough patch with style and grace!

Hang in there! This is the best time of year to use pretty clips and before you know it your hair will be just the length you want.

I also had someone screw my hair up and give me a lovely mullet! I had some breakage in the back when my hair was curly (before I had it straightened) and the gal I was going to in Denver was letting it grow out. It was just a small chunk. Well, the weather had been really bad for a stretch and I couldn't get to Denver for my appointment and couldn't seem to get it rescheduled so I finally decided to go in town. BIG MISTAKE! My sister, who has stick straight hair, had just gotten a really cute cut at this place. So I called and asked if they had anyone who could cut curly hair and they said this one gal could and she actually had curly hair. Ha! She ended up cutting a whole big layer around my head to match the part in the back that was broken off - and it was high up! Hence the mullet! I even told her ahead of time that I had that breakage and that my stylist was letting it grow out. Anyway, it took FOREVER to grow out and I couldn't even pull my hair back which is bad for curly hair in a very windy climate.
