Baby Must Haves

I was just talking with my mom last night about "must haves" as my sister is expecting her first baby and has very limited space/funds. After 3 babies (now 2, 4, and 6) I found that with each baby I used less and less "stuff". My list of essentials would be this:
1. boppy (use it for nursing- it will save your back and neck from endless strain and pain)
2. Baby Bjorn (I had several other brands with my first two, and nothing compares to BB)
3. exer-saucer
4. somewhere for the baby to sleep

I rarely used swings, or bouncy seats (my kids never seemed to like them) but all of them LOVED the saucer. I put them in the saucer at a very early age (for just short bits of time, under supervision) - I'm talking like 10 weeks- and I swear that this contributed to the fact that all of my babies were sitting up by themselves for extended periods of time at 4 months (super trunk strength!)

There are so many people trying to get the money of desperate parents it is unbelievable all the stuff that is out now - and it's not like it's been so long since my kids were babies. If you have the extra income, go for it and buy all that you think will work or help - but I feel sorry for people with limited incomes who feel compelled to buy and bunch of plastic stuff that their babies may or may not use.

Hope this helps.

There are so many great products out there! Things I used with my three children:
boppy pillow
swing (the one that goes side to side as well as back to front was a
surprise hit with my third child!!!)
exersaucer
snuggli or baby bijorn
pacifiers
pack and play
