Thought I'd share this with all you readers! I picked this list up at my local library, one of my favorite places to hang out. Hope you find the ideas fun and creative. If you're like me, you've probably already accomplished some of these tasks or are in the midst of one.:)

New Years Resolutions For Readers

- I will re-read a book I loved as a child.
- I will finally read that classic from high school that I've been avoiding.
- I'll find a book of poetry and read some aloud.
- I'll spend an hour in aimless browsing at the library.
- I'll read a book written in the year I was born.
- I'll create a journal and keep notes about the books and magazines I read.
- I will assemble a list of my favorite people and send them my ideas about books (favorites, recent reads and the like).
- I will read a book aloud to a child.
- I will read a book on the history of my town.
- I will read a book written from a political point of vie totally opposite my own.
- I will gather a few friends and read a play aloud.
- I'll read a book about a place I've never been.
- I will re-read a book that I "just didn't get" when I was 18.
- I will read a book written by a non American.
- I will ask a librarian to show me some print and online resources for readers.

So far this year I've read some poetry aloud with my youngest daughter. I began keeping a journal/list of books that I will read throughout the year just so that I don't have to wonder later in the year if I read it or not. I go through tons of books. :) I'm always asking the librarians one thing or another but I did have to get help finding a site to help me locate books written in the year I was born. And lucky me Fairview has a system already in place so that I could browse for titles and request them right on the spot! I can't wait to read Little Women again - this was my favorite book as a child. I think every summer from 5-8th grades I read that book! Oh yeah, I browse every Saturday - so no problems there. :7

I was really excited to see this list on the display stand in the library. I hope you all find the list fun and I hope there are some ideas on it that you will find the time to do throughout 2003!

Enjoy! :) :)
From One Enthusiatic Reader to Another

Thank you from one avid reader to another!;-) Most of this list is stuff I'm ALWAYS telling myself to do! Now I think it's a good time to start! Take care and Happy Reading! Susan

I loved Paul Zindel's books as a teenager - especially "The Pigman" and "Pardon Me, You're Stepping on My Eyeballs", I think was what it was called.

Your list was a great motivator!

Susan G.

Susan G - I forgot all about The Pigman! I remember reading that too! I may put that on the summer reading list for my son and youngest daughter. They don't like reading much but I try every summer to encourage them to read as well as throughout the year but they tend to use homework as an excuse not to do any pleasure reading as I like to call it! :)

Hmmm, Pardon Me, You're Stepping On My Eyeballs - I like that title. I'll put that one on the list too! Thanks for the suggestions!

Susanz - I am the same. Always have these ideas for new things to read about but never got around to them. So this list has become my TO DO LIST! I usually come up with a summer project for myself where I read all I can about a particular subject. The last few summers have been spent on slavery, the Civil War and animals of the Artic. I don't have any ideas for this summer as of yet. Maybe another war, something historical, who knows! :)

Angie

I've been thinking of reading more about the Civil War myself. I found it so very interesting when I was in school. I also like to read about past presidents. If you have any good Civil War books please pass the titles on to me! Susan
