Attacked by dog

Catherine,

This is what my DH and I have been going through for 16 years. Your story made me relive all of our instances. It is one of the most scary things I've had to go through, and still today.

I been talking with the County Commissioners and we are all trying hard to figure something out on how to take hold of these situations. My name was even in the paper. But so far nothing more has happened. And unless I sue, I don't think anything more will come of it. We may have to sue just so they will enforce the law, but so far nothing.

We can't take anymore walks around the tree farm (Huge Co.) Instead we use the treadmill, or go someplace else like a park to walk or jog. It's too bad, because this farm has 100's of miles of trees, all beautiful places to walk. We can't even go to our lake for fear fangs and stand up hair from a dog will threaten us.

Fight the system if you can, I bet you have a leash law, and if so enforce it. Talk to the Sheriff and start writing things down, for your sake. If only the owner's would comply with the laws, these animals could live safe at home, and in return so could we.

Talk with LauraMax, she has helped my DH and I get through some tough parts. And I'm sure there are others here with great advice also.

My heart is with you, please take care,

Janie

The idea is to die young as late as possible.

OMG Catherine, I am so glad you and your pups are okay  I can't even imagine how terrifying that was. Please let us know about reporting the incident. People are just crazy -- and look what happens to the pets!! Big ((hugs)) to you.

I'm not gaining weight. I'm retaining food.

I'm glad nothing happened to you or your dogs. We have a few pitbulls running around freely here. I live on a farm and they come here often. What I do is I carry a golf club, a putter to be exact because of the heavy head and if I see them I make a lot of noises with it. Usually chases them right off. Sometimes I even go after them. I'm not scared of dogs or anything really which helps a lot. Maybe you can carry a bat or a heavy stick when you go for a walk? Just keep your eyes open because the dog can attack you and get the back of your neck if you walk away. It almost happened to my uncle and luckily my mother saw that and stopped it. It was a big rottie.

It both amazes me and annoys me that people would let them roam freely. I don't understand people sometimes. Be careful and the next time, call animal control. Take care of yourself.

OMG!
I'm just glad you (and your dogs) are alright.
Sounds like you have a bad pet owner as a neighbor.
What kind of dog was it?
Was he tied out?

This is a situation where I think of euthanasia...of the irresponsible owner, NOT of the dog, who needs to be in a home where he will be treated well and taught how to behave.
