I am not on the atkins diet but I have a question, I know you can eat beef but is do you also use portion control? there is a couple here that goes to a buffett twice a week and down nearly a whole pot roast between the two people. I was wondering if you are allowed to eat that much on the atkins diet?

LeslieMarie, if you go on Atkins, I am coming out there to kick your butt young lady!! LOL!!
Downing a whole pot roast sounds like gluttony regardless of what diet you are on.
Exercise hard, go 40-30-30, or maybe 40-40-20, or somewhere in-between..... and you'll be in great shape. All diets do the same thing overall. They cut TOTAL calories, just depends from where you are cutting.
Trevor :)

I follow Atkins (the maintenance phase of it). I do use portion control however. Atkins is not a license to eat unlimited protein like most people believe. In fact I eat no more protein now than I did before going low carb. My portions are between 3-5 oz usually, depending on what I'm having. If I remember correctly (haven't read up on this in over a year) even Dr. Atkins himself suggested no more than 6-8oz at a time (I'm pretty sure I can still find the links if you all want them).

LOL not for me, there is this couple that goes to a buffet twice a week and eat nearly a whole pot roast, so the resteraunt told them no more, they said they are on the atkins diet and they eat all the roast they want, so I was wondering if that kind of eating is allowed even though it is atkins.

Leslie, yes there is portion control, or suppose to be, my hubby is on it, and the book says not to over eat, it says to stop when your satisfied no stuff yourself. Some people have to work with that because they don't know when they have had enough, they are so used to stuffing themselves.......... Rhonda

the book does say there is no limit on meats and eggs.... but like I said your not suppose to stuff yourself........

I did find this on the Atkins website

"You must not:

Overeat. You may have heard that you can eat as much as you desire of the acceptable foods. No so. Stuff yourself with steaks and cheeseburgers, and some of that protein will convert to glucose in your body. Instead, simply eat the amount that allows you to feel satisfied."

The feeling satisfied part is sometimes hard though! :)

Commonsense will tell you that too much of anything is not good for you! Reading the Atkin's book may be a good thing for you to do.
