At least 10 more voters needed!!! Score Cathe's workouts!!! Sneak peek at results

dutchgirl

Cathlete
Hi everyone,

Many people new to Cathe (and those long timers too) often ask why there hasn't been a ranking of Cathe's videos to help them decide what would be right for them. Let's end that right now!!!!

The Plan and Some Guidelines
1. I will categorize and list all the Cathe workouts that fall in that category. Then it's up to the Catheites to score the videos on a scale of 1 to 10 in each category. A 1 will be quite easy and would be suited to a beginner. A 5 would be not too easy, but not really hard either and would be a challenge for a beginner but well suited to an intermediate to low advanced exerciser. A 10 would be an 'Oh my Gosh!!!' workout, very intense and be a challenge to even the most seasoned exerciser. Think in terms of a perceived exertion scale and you'll do fine. I will track each workout's points and in the end will add up the points and divide this total by the number of voters to create an average score. Based on this average score I will rank the workouts from lowest average score (easiest) to highest average score (hardest).

2. You need not have done every single workout to participate but I do ask that you ONLY RATE THOSE WORKOUTS THAT YOU HAVE ACTUALLY DONE. Please do not rate a workout based on what you have heard from other people about the workout. I want your ratings based on your experience!!! Of course, the more Cathe videos you have done will help you when assigning a score to the workouts.

3. I will announce when I will end the scoring time. At that point I will do the tallies and post the results. I will also ask SNM if we can have the final results stickied at the top of a page (probably the Video/DVD forum) for everyone to reference.

4. I have not separated ab segments as a separate category. If all goes well with this process and interest is high, I'll tackle ab segments next!

5. Out of Print titles are excluded from the list as they are not readily available.

6. You can post your scores on this thread (paste the list into your reply and add your score next to the title) or email me your scores ([email protected]).

I will start by listing the workouts in each category alphabetically.

The Early Results
From the votes gathered so far, here is a sneak peak at some results.
1) Maximum Intensity Cardio has been scored the hardest workout of ANY category.
2) Cardio and Weights has the most varied scores of any workout.
3) Step Blast is currently edging out Rhythmic Step as the hardest Step Workout.
4) It's too close to call between Leaner Legs and PLB for toughest Lower Body Workout

Thanks for taking the time to vote!

I'm making this into a Zagat-type rating by adding comments.

Strength training:

1. Pyramid workouts, with PLB being the hardest. 5 sets of each exercise is killer stuff, but even without it, you're looking at Death by Stability Ball. Don't buy this workout until you have conquered all of Cathe's other strength training workouts. BEWARE.

2. Muscle Endurance - For the 3 sets of step-ups on a 16" box. Can anyone get through all 3 sets in a single workout?

3. Power Hour - the squats can make a grown woman cry.

4. Slow & Heavy - more mentally tough, particularly the chest work which is very repetitive. Unlike endurance work, the effort required depends mostly upon the weight chosen.

5. Pure Strength - a good workout without being mentally fatiguing. Again, can be made easy or hard depending upon the weight chosen. For that reason, it is excellent for beginners.

I've done MIS, PP and SS a few times, but not often enough to know where they fit in.

I only do Cathe's cardio workouts, but here are my ratings--I'm just gonna list my favorite first & go down from there, w/a few comments thrown in

Power Max: choreography is great fun, also very intense
Step Blast: also awesome choreography & probably a little more intense than Power Max, really makes me sweat!
Rhythmic Step: not as intense but very unique (& challenging) choreography that always makes me feel like I know how to dance, which I definitely do not
Step Heat: I like this b/c of it's shorter time, usually do it when I oversleep. Not quite as intense as the top two, but fun moves
Step Works: I like for the same reason as Power Max
Step Fit: Not quite as much fun or as intense as the others, but good for an occasional change
IMAX & IMAX2: very powerful but I have to wake up earlier & be feeling pretty energetic to do
MIC: EXTREMELY intense but very basic moves
