Are You Sick Of Fitness Magazines Too!!!!

I am a fitness magazine junkie and yet lately I feel as though I am just wasting my money. I don't feel that I'm learning anything new! For instance yesterday I was reading Self (or was it Shape?) and there was an article about getting rid of cellulite forever. Well, guess what they promoted?.....working out, eating well and a bunch of overpriced products that "mask" the appearance of cellulite. But what really annoyed me is that I think I could have written a better article. Because even though they mentioned losing weight...they really didn't focus on "clean eating." And, they all seem so hypocritical with ad after ad of "fat burning" supplements. I think I learn so much more on this site than in any magazine!!!!

i got a deal for some 3 years for the price of one year so i get it rip out the workouts, maybe read an article or two and trash the rest.sometimes they have a good recipie that dh might want to try but thats about it. i only get them if they are REALLY cheap and that is usually when my subscription is almost up and they will start offering free years LOL. i have this huge library of clipped out workouts from fitness, self, shape, and muscle & fitness hers(although there are more articles clipped from there LOL).

i agree with the over-abundance of fat burning articles ALL magazines i seem to get are like that, even men's fitness magazines.i just take the approach of "take what you need and leave the rest behind".

i feel the same but its a terrible addiction of mine. i subscribe to self, oxygen, women's health and i buy fitness, mens health, and muscle fitness hers. they all say the same things and its no secret as to what works. i think for me just seeing the fitness models especially those in oxygen motivates me and i also like reading about the transformations and getting new recipes.

The ad's kill me! There is one that you can absolutly tell that the "before" is a computer generated fat picture and the "after" is how that person always looked. Too much!

Yeah, the ads & other crap suck you know what, but you just have to flip over it. Some of the mags do have some imformative stuff. I really like Oxygen, Women's Health & M&F Hers.

I'm ready! I'm ready! I'm ready!

I totally agree...it is the same thing over and over again with a 6'5 super model on the cover who has not worked out a day in her life!? At least the Oxygen models really work out...

I get Fitness and Self because I too got some great deal for 3 years. I do the same as Kassia and rip out the workouts. Sometimes they have some good/unique exercises. I also look at the makeup/hair stuff and then toss them in the recycling bin. I don't think that they are really that informative, but for some reason I just love looking through glossy magazines.

I used to get a lot of fitness magazines, but they became so repetitive after a while. And it was particularly annoying when they would present as 'new' ínformation something that I'd seen long before.

Most of them are either too 'fluffy' (to much info on make-up, outrageously-priced clothes--$300 workout pants, yeah, right--, non-fitness-related articles) or too full of supplement ads (and related articles) for my tastes. Even those I liked got tiresome after a while.

I subscribe to Women's Heath, and pick up Muscle and Fitness Hers when I see it on the newsstand, but only occasionally pick up a copy of Fitness.

Or, the before is post-pregnancy or post-accident, and after is when the person got back in shape. Other 'before's are due to in-shape folks being paid to get out of shape, just so they can get back in shape while taking whatever drug is being pushed.

I stopped buying them for the same reasons. Besides I can find good information for free on the web. I spend the money on Popular Science now. :)

I gave up on all of them quite a while ago. Same old, same old. Could have written a better article myself. It really doesn't matter about the year the month whatever. They are practically interchangeable. The only part I might miss is discussion of new workouts but there are forums for that and much better advice and suggestions.

I just bought Oxygen for the first time a week ago and really enjoyed reading some of the articles and looking at the models (can you say motivation!?) but the tons and tons of ads for the supplements really turned me off :(

It is funny that you brought this up right now, because I have been thinking all week, should I cancel subscriptions to Fitness, Shape, etc. that I have. They all rehash the same stuff every issue, it seems. And even the workouts - I usually find a photo and poor description of what to do really useless. Sometimes I'll find a recipe but after reading "Clean Eating" and BFFM I just feel like I'm wasting my time even looking at the magazines. And the models - often healthy and fit, but just as often anorexic looking. I have written email to Shape complaining about anorexic-looking actresses on the cover. Not my idea of inspiration! I hear 'ya!!!

Aim for nothing, and you'll hit it every time!

I started out years ago w/a subscription to Fitness magazine. Then I added one here and another there. A few years ago, when I was receiving several, I realized that I was reading the same thing over and over in the different months and different magazines. I cancelled them all except for Health magazine.

After a while, I added back Fitness. Recently I added Women's Health because they had a great promotion and Cooking Light (my friend's kid was selling magazines and I had to buy something!). I guess just like they do with their topics, I go in phases with my buying! ha ha! :+

I gave up my subscription to Shape for this very reason. And the constanct celebrities on the cover - all stick thin or computer thinned is pathetic. Nothing real about it.
I have Health right now, which I kind of like. I got it free, however, for subscibing to Cooking Light. I may renew it.
Otherwise, I've given up on those mags with the exception of the occassional purchase if something piques my interest.

Yep. They are a colossal waste of $$$$$$$.

They're all the same, and no matter how much the bloviate about "loving your body," they constantly feature skinny models with no shape and zero muscle tone. Bastards. x( x(

Oh, I will say that I did subscribe to Looking Good for a while. They had women in their mag who lost weight, and they were real women. But they're defunct. :(
