I voted natural products because I take 800 units of vitamin E a day and calcium with soy and B=Complex. I find that this really helps with minimizing hot flashes and night sweats. I don;t realize how much until I go away and don't bring the stuff with me. After about a week without taking them, the hot flashes etc start again. Otherwise, not taking any other things

Wow! Thanks for your response Candi...not too long at all. I bought and read Susan Sommers "Sexy Years" book and remember that this is the form of HRT she took. Funny, I am a musician and we opened for her one woman act a couple of months ago...Boy, does she look amazing. She spoke allot about her breast cancer, diet and menopause. Facinating. The idea of taking the HRT my mother took is not an option for me, however, bioidentical HRT does sound interesting. Thank you for the link...I am an information freak. I am 45 and this month after 39 days I am stilllll waiting for my period and simply don't know what will happen when it comes...clotting and heavy bleeding ( sorry if tmi ) or two or three days of a period. Ah, the joys of being a woman. deb :)

Funny you should mention the Sommers book because that is one I have not read, believe it or not. I'm planning on getting it though because I've heard so much about it!

I am also an information junkie. The book I gleaned the most information from was, The Power of Peri-Menopause by Stephanie DeGraff-Bender. I know many people like Dr. Christine Northrup, not my favorite but many people like her. Also, I am attaching another website that continues to get me through this phase of my life. Bookmark this site and when the time comes, go to the home page and look through everything it offers.

Keep asking questions, Deb. Every woman that is going through menopause or has gone through menopause will have something to share. We women have to keep the network going :)

Count me in as one on bioidentical HRT. I'd been having terrible symptoms that were just bringing me down ... fatigue, forgetfulness, no drive, no SEX drive ... they were all difficult for me to deal with. My nutritionist recommended bio HRT, a friend recommended bio HRT and to read "The Sexy Years" (and there's another book I read by a Dr. Loo, something like, "What Your Doctor Doesn't Tell You About Menopause"). My doctor recommended bio HRT as well.

The cool thing is that the pill is compounded specifically according to your hormone levels. I believe the Premarin (the one made from horse urine) is sort of a one-size fits all. It took a couple months to get the dosage right, but for me wasn't a big deal.

I'm 38 and had a hysterectomy 4 years ago for cervical cancer. I swear I had more problems dealing with symptoms years after the surgery, than for the cancer itself! But I'm feeling pretty darned good now!

I think HRT is a difficult decision and you have to choose what works best for you, and what you are comfortable with. I have a friend who runs a Premarian foal rescue farm (because they have to keep the mares pregnant, the drug manufacturers have a bunch of foals that just get destroyed) so that's an issue for me. Plus my daughter rides horses and I don't think I could take the Premarin for that reason. But again, it's personal and everyone's different.

Your a sweetheart, thanks again. I agree "WE" are our greatest resource. When we continue to talk and share we don't feel alone but, enpowered.

Take care~deb

Thank you Dayna for sharing your experience with bio hrt, sooo good to know that we don't have to suffer. Glad that you are feeling great! deb

I wasn't aware of a correlation between working out and the onset of perimenopause. Can you share any other info you have on this?
