OK - I'm a dental hygienist and by simply asking a patient if they've had any health changes or problems will give you the answer. Besides, it's info you need to know before you treat them anyway. Some people just don't have a clue when it comes to common sense.

Standard Rule - Do not ever say anything about being pregnant to a woman unless they bring it up first. Just don't do it.

I did something I felt really really bad about along the same lines. I was at a winery over the weekend and this guy comes in from the vineyard with his 2 children. I tell him that he has the most adorable little boys I had ever seen.

Later on - he calls one of them Jenna. Never heard of boy named Jenna - anybody else? The haircut was very boyish - the jeans and t shirt showed no indication that this could possibly be a girl - no jewerly - not even the shoes. Felt so horrible about it.

So new rule - always compliment someone's child - don't ever identify them as a boy or girl.
