Are you a "scheduled" person or "fly by the seat"......

I am just curious because I love making plans and getting things organized and I get TOTALLY TOTALLY stressed out when things change at the last minute or when we have "wishy washy" plans.......

I would love to be more 'go with the flow ' but I totally get stressed when I try to live that way - I like to know what I am going to be doing during the week and on weekends - I don't like it when my friends/family change plans on me last minute because more than likely I had already made arrangement for the dog/cat or went to the store to get the necessary food/beer/wine . . . .

anyone have thoughts?? do you think you are just a certain way???

My mom and best friend seem to be more "flexible" people and constantly change their plans on me, and it really does stress me out - - how do I meet in the middle??

This weekend plans got changed THREE times, until I finally said "ya know what it just doesn't work for us to try and make it anymore since nobody can decide if they are coming or going"

My old favorite saying was "sh*t or get off the pot" - meaning "make a dang decision and stick to it" - LOL

any thoughts??

RE: Are you a

I'm a planner. I can't stand for my routine to be disrupted if it's not a planned disruption. It's just like that with my workout rotations. If I miss one, I HAVE to make it up. I wish I could just go with the flow more too.

I think we both have "control issues.":+

RE: Are you a

I'm more fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants. I love the IDEA of planning and I'll sit and figure out rotations and make schedules, but when it comes right down to it, I do the workout that I feel like doing that particular day. I do make sure that I get the weight training on the right days, you know, with enough time between.

I guess I'm like that in my personal life, too. Granted, I keep a pretty strict schedule as far as getting up, eating, getting to work, and what time I work out. But my husband and I always laugh about how we'll get an invitation to a party, and we're all excited about it and we rsvp, and, inevitably when we're getting ready to actually go to the event, we're usually saying, "Why did we think we wanted to do this! I'd rather stay in and watch a movie." But if someone calls at the last minute and asks us to go to dinner or to a party, we're all over it...and usually have a great time!

RE: Are you a

Interesting!! I was going to ask for a vote bc I would guess when it comes to people who workout on a regular basis they would lean towards the "planner" or "scheduled" personality....

I have noticed that with my friends - the ones who are "planners" which are VERY few - have a tendancy to work out regularly

and the ones who are "go with the flow" end up watching a movie or going to a random bar or happy hour during the week or doing something that puts the workout on the back burner.....

Oh I do wish I could be more flexible though when it came to weekend plans and last minute things, but if I don't have certain things on my "TO DO" list checked off - I get anxiety about it!!!

I definitely must have control issues.....no doubt.......I cannot imagine it the other way around though! I am already concerned with planning our annual ski trip that is in FEBRUARY!!!

"Gotta have a plan, and just in case that doesn't workout I
>have a backup plan.

Jo"

LOL! That describes me to a T also. Love to have a plan, feel anxious without one.

RE: Are you a

I fly by the seat of my pants...or someone elses!:7

If my life depended on my being organized i'd have been gone YEARS ago!:+

I DO, however always workout. I seldom, however, decide which workout to do before the time to do it. I DO know that I'm doing B&G on Sunday and Stretch Max tomorrow! :9

I always roll with whatever is happenning and it keeps my from getting too stressed out!

RE: Are you a

Is it possible to be both? I mean I like to plan and prefer to know what is going on, when, with who and where. However, after being with my DH for the past 24 years (who is definitely NOT a planner) I've learned to let go.

When it comes to getting together with family and friends, just give me generalities - what day, morning, afternoon, or evening. Last minute invite - sure, why not? Specifics can be worked out at when we get there UNLESS the event is at my house. In that case everything is planned down to the number of napkins I will lay out with the appetizers and the amount of time we will wait between dinner and dessert.

I tend to be pretty organized (I can pull out any receipt or instruction manual usually in less than five minutes). WO are every morning, first thing and DON'T MESS WITH MY WO TIME. But other than that, whatever happens happens -

Is that really being both or am I a planner trying to pretend I'm laid back??

RE: Are you a

In my professional life, I like to be a total planner, but as that is being an Open Heart/Trauma ICU nurse, it doesn't always go as planned!

I like to have an idea of a plan, but often I just go with the flow and come what may. I figured out a long time ago that just because you have a plan, that doesn't mean that life and everyone else will follow it, and all it does is get your stress level up. I don't like to be stressed, so I generally don't try to make anyone else stick to my plans.

But I do workout at least 6 days/week and that time is sacred. DH knows better than to get an answer if he asks me a question during that time....it gets ignored.

RE: Are you a

I'm pretty flexi and easy going by nature but now that I have a child and dog it's become harder to be that way. I ofcourse need advance warning of plans that my son is not involved in so that I can find a sitter and if I am going to be away overnight, I need a dog sitter as well. :+

RE: Are you a

Oh, yeah, I fly by the seat of my pants all the time. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA.... not. I'm the most controlled, anal person I know. I am well-known among my friends for my lists. I hate my plans getting disrupted and I NEED to get all the things on that list crossed out at the end of the day or I get all stressed out.

As for workouts ~ forget it. NOTHING gets in the way of my workout, unless it's some sort of family emergency.

I'm well aware that I am extremely difficult to live with for this very reason. Thankfully, my SO is very "go with the flow" so he just kind of tags along with me:p

RE: Are you a

Planner, schmanner, I don't need no stinkin' plan!!!! I'm flying by the seat of my pants as we speak,...WHEEEEEEEE....:+ I live in a world that we affectionately refer to as 'organized chaos'. I kinda know what we're going to do today but if it doesn't get done today, it will get done tomorrow....maybe}( There is structure in my day for workouts and eating and THAT'S IT, everything else is subject to change without notice. All it takes to change my mind is a change in the weather or a phone call, I'm very good at switching gears :)

RE: Are you a

Wooooo HOOOOOO!!!!! Love the "I'm flying by the seat of my pants as we speak" part!

We tried going on vacation with some friends who were complete gotta-have-a-schedule types. My god, they were asking where we planned to have dinner right after we ate breakfast! Hell, I don't know...I'm on vacation! And we were on a small island in the Outer Banks of NC, which, at the time, had only about five restaurants... It killed them that none of the places took reservations, you couldn't get cell phone service at the time, and that we had no phone in the cottage. Oh, and they got really ticked when it took the waitress over five minutes to bring us our check when we did go to dinner. I wanted to say, "What, do you have an appointment or something...WE'RE ON VACATION...have another sip of wine!!!!"

DH and I go to that particular island for that particular reason...there's so little to do that there are absolutely no need for schedules!!! Beach, read, eat, kayak, drink, etc....and a lot of that DOES depend on the weather!!!

RE: Are you a

Definitely a "fly by the seat of my pants" gal... So is DH. In fact, we spent 2 weeks in Europe a few years ago and never even made hotel reservations in advance. We would just pick the town/city of choice for the day and drive or take a train there, find a hotel information center and book a room for the night. It was great!

As far as workouts go. I don't decide until the minute I get dressed in my workout clothes. I've never followed a rotation and never will!
