Are we predestined to gain 10 lbs. each decade?

:( I know that if I did'nt exercise and watch my goody intake I would be at least 25 lbs. heavier than I was in high school. The funny thing is that I am 10 lbs. heavier than I was in high school but yet still wear the same size clothes which must be attributed to the muscle definition. I guess if we don't have any form of physcial activity or change of eating habits as we age, weight gain is inevitable! I do know the weight distribution is shifting to my boobs, mid-section and hips as I near 40. I will be 39 in February.

I also believe that sizes have changed over the years. I think they have gotten bigger. I wear a pretty small size and I'm a lot bigger than I was in high school. I was really thin, too thin, but ate all the time. I'm 41 now and my weight has been distributed differently and it is driving me crazy. I never had a problem with fat around my mid section until the last couple of years. I will say that exercising definitely helps this. I have lost a full inch over my waist in the last 1-1/2 months since the BB series came out. It must be from doing Kick, Punch, and Crunch. I also only have 1 more slot left on my bra and I'll have to buy a smaller size around which is good/not good. I'm wearing a 34D and I'm not sure if I can find a 32D. Hopefully by the time I need a 32, I'll be back in a C cup. I hate being a D.

I've started back on the Slow & Heavy Series this week to try to build some serious muscle that I have lost since turning 40.

I believe that I'm gaining an average of at least 1 pound per year since high school. I'll be out of school for 25 years in 2 years. I weigh at least 25 pounds more now than I did in school, but I also very thin in school. I would not want to look that way again.

:D I was never too thin in high school and I would say I was of average weight. Isn't it funny how back then we could get by with little exercise and eat whatever we wanted?

Gosh, I wish my weight would shift to my boobs! My older sister's boobs got really big in her thirties. I keep waiting for that to happen to me (I'm 45)!

:D I remember in my teens and 20's I was always quite flat chested and then once I hit my 30's kazaam!!! Not that I am huge, but I did go up a cup size to a C and on top of that they are getting droopy.

I hate big boobs. They are nothing but fat. But I have to say I was not flat chested in my teens. I have gone up and down. In high school I only weighed around 95 pounds and was a C cup. I looked huge. I started exercising when I was 17 and had my first son when I was only 18 and afterwards dropped to a B cup. I had my second son when I was 25 and dropped to an A cup. I was exercising a lot at that time as I was also teaching aerobics. I loved being an A cup. I loved buying extra small size shirts as I think they look cuter. I stopped teaching aerobics and gained around 10 pounds, going from an A to a C. Over the last 5 years years I've gained another 5 pounds and now I'm a size D. It is just fat and nothing else. I'm so glad that it looks like I'm getting smaller again. I hate buying bigger shirts.

After age 30 or so, we start to lose muscle. Strength training will help keep it there. The less lean muscle we have, the less efficient we are at burning fat, so it makes sense to me we'd gain weight as we age, UNLESS we keep working out. Don't fear your chronological age. It's only a number ... a way to mark time. I'm 46 and my fat distribution hasn't changed much at all from my early 20's, thanks to cardio and strength training. Though I haven't always been consistent with it, I kept coming back to it I guess enough times. Now, I'm hooked for life, thanks to Cathe!!! It's never too late to build muscle and alter your body shape, but it does take time, consistency, and perseverance. We ALL can do this!!

Me too. In high school I was only 86 lbs. Twenty-some years later, I'm about 22 lbs. heavier. But it's all good. I wouldn't freak over gaining more pounds, as long as it's muscle -- or most of it is.
:)

I did notice that after giving birth, I tend to store more fat around my waist and especially in my lower abs. I wasn't like this before. But exercise definitely helps.

In high school and college, I was thin and wore a D cup, which, quite frankly, did not bother me a bit! When I started seriously working out at age 25 or so, I went down to a C and became leaner overall. Then I had my first child at age 30, breastfed him for 14 months and went down to a B. I also got much thinner and no matter how much I ate, I couldn't keep enough weight on. Three years later, after breastfeeding my second child for 18 months, I lost even more boobage. Five years after that, I breastfed my third child for 2 1/2 yrs, discovered Cathe, and now, at 42, I'm barely a B! I also think I'm too thin (except my stomach). I wish I'd get SOME of my old breast size back (sigh).
