Are u a Waxer or Shaver

Im biteing the bullet this summer and going to Wax my legs and underarms.

I will be a "virgin" waxer, so I may need that bullet to bite after all!

Ive looked at various home Waxes and they throw around the word "painless" alot, and call me synical but.........ripping of hair at great speed is painless?

Handy hints on the "true" painless way would be very appreciated

Also any funny or gross stories are welcome

Marion

P.S. and what the heck, any "nat...tre.....al" gals can join in to

For legs, I do neither, as I have basically no hair on my legs (except for a few stray ones around the ankles, which I pluck). For pits, I used to shave, but lately, I've been using an Emjoi hair remover, an electric-razor-looking gizmo that rips the hairs out at the roots. Not too fun the first time...yikes! But if you keep up with it, it isn't bad at all, because you're only ripping a few at a time. (Does the same thing as waxing, but without the mess.)

I've attempted waxing "other areas" a couple of times, but I always hold back during the ripping phase, and it hurts like the dickens if you go too slowly! And then, I would give up, and have to try to get the wax off, etc. If I would ever wax, I'd have a professional do it. And I'd make sure that they'd been doing it a loooong time and know what they are doing (and aren't a sadistic prison guard type!).

I am a shaver...the only thing that gets waxed on THIS bod are the eyebrows and I do them myself...I am used to that now so it doesn't bother me really at all...I have heard that, believe it or not, if you keep it up ANYWHERE on your body, it won't hurt so much after a while...good luck! :)

I have considered waxing my legs but I won't have the patience to let the hair grow back in before getting another waxing so I just shave as often as my little heart desires...lol

Have a great work out!

Hey Marion! I have everything waxed at least once and now i know what to wax and what not to(for myself) I am a freak about hair even though i am not very hairy...go figure. I wax my eyebrows at home using a microwavable wax. i don't remember the name, i'll have to check. anyway, you can buy it at the beauty supple store and make sure and get muslin strips and popcicle sticks. They usually come together, but ya never know. Despite what any directions tell you, you should only microwave 30 secs at a time b/c it gets hot all of the sudden and you can burn the dell out of yourself. Don't use your fingertips to check the temp, use your knuckle. Just trust me.

No matter how fast you rip, it's gonna hurt a little and although i have bought "painless" wax, i have never found that decription to be true. x( i would suggest a few cocktails first. }( just a thought. Usually, you can't use the same wax on bikini/pit area as you do on legs, arms b/c of the thiness of the skin.

i only wax brows now. i have had skin ripped off of too many important areas and would rather shave everything everyday.

Always pull against the growth of the hair and push the muslin down onto the wax pretty firmly an dsmooth over several times. let it sit for a sec or 2. it will be a better "pull" if you do this.

Let me know how it goes!!!!

I'm totally with Wendy on this one. I can no more let the hair on my legs grow in then stick a lit cigar up my nose. I did it once for my wedding and it was sheer torture. It may have something to do with the fact that my hair is very black and very coarse and my skin is fair, so every hair is in sharp relief. x( And that stuff about it growing in lighter is a bunch of bunk.

As for the physical pain, it didn't bother me that much.

Hmmmm...kind of a revealing question, but I'll contribute anyway. I do both.

I shave my legs and underarms because I just can't imagine letting those areas grow long enough for a good waxing.

I have my eyebrows and bikini area waxed by a professional. I would never try it on myself for fear that I'd end up with no eyebrows and a very uncomfortable nether region. Yes, it hurts. Anyone who says waxing is "painless" is a big fat liar. It hurts most the first few times. The pain gets less intense the longer you wax. The lady who does my waxing says that the hair grows in finer and that's why it hurts less the more you do it -- but that may be BS. Eyebrows aren't that big of a deal (small area). The type of wax used also seems to make a difference. Bikini area hurts pretty bad (especially the first time) -- but once you get used to less hair down there it's worth the few moments of pain.

You can take an aspirin/advil/tylenol prior to a wax appointment to dull the pain a little.

If you decide to go to a professional, make sure you talk to one of their clients to find out the scoop. Waxing gone awry is not a pretty site and doesn't feel good either!

I use a epilator} Like Kathryn:D It no longer really hurts, but boy the first few times....... YIKES!!! I have noticed that the more I use it that hair is not coming back and when it does it is coming in much more finer!!!! :)

I'm a waxer and a shaver. I have had my legs waxed...and will never do it again. Like an idiot I went to the Northwest Hair Academy because it was close and inexpensive. I left in lots of pain and very unsatisfied. The girl missed all kinds of patches and kept having to go ask her trainer for tips. That's what I get though.

Now I shave underarms and legs. I wax bikini area myself, it only hurts for a second, guess the skin is used to it there now. But I only trust me:+

I shave my underarms, home-wax my bikini area (too shy to let someone else do it), pluck my eyebrows, and epilate (sp?) my legs. I'd never go back to shaving my legs - I just hate stubble! by epilating, I only need to do my legs every couple of weeks. If you do it the first time or two right after taking a shower, the hairs pull out easier and with less pain. I think the same theory would hold true for waxing.

'Splain me somethin': I've never understood the concept of waxing eyebrows. Unless you've got a huge, bushy unibrow, why not just pluck? (And I've also never understood people who think that plucking is painful. I've been doing it since I was around 16.)

I shave and pluck. My reasons...My older sister bought NADS a few years ago and decided to "try it out" on ME first! I was 12. I wasn't even old enough to shave. She only got one strip of hair off of me then I was out side and up my tree b4 she could even say "Boo."

A few years later I was going to be in a wedding so all of us had to have our brows waxed. My brows ended up having to be penciled in in some spots. I will never ever ever have them waxed again. They looked awful. I can pluck them some much better and shape them how I want.

I have thought about that lotion that supposedly lightens the hair on your legs so that you don't have to worry about the hair. But then there is the mistrust wheather it will work or not.

I pluck my eyebrows because it bother's me to have one hair out of place. I get complements on my eyebrows. In the spring, I have my legs waxed once by a professional and maintain by myself, thereafter. Like the eyebrows, after you've done it for a while, it doesn't hurt. Shonie's right though, you can take a pain reliever 30 minutes before to help with pain. The reason I go through such trouble with waxing is, your legs stay baby smooth much longer. I hate to shave one night & by afternoon the next day I'll have prickly stubble. It aggravates me. I am also too lazy to shave everyday. I have better stuff to do.

Hi Kathryn,

I like to keep my eyebrows alot thinner than they are naturally...would take me forever to pluck all that hair out! lol I use tweezers as my back up for waxing..to fine tune the shape...and to pull out that annoying hair or 2 that seems to grow 5x faster than the rest! lol I don't find plucking painful...to me it's just an annoying feeling I guess...

Have a great work out!
