Are They Lying to Me?

Iron also absorbs better with Vitamin C, so eating a supplement with something with Vitamin C helps. Iron does have an upper limit that is toxic, so be careful not to exceed that.

I am 5'4" and currently am 147 and a size 12. I want to get down to 132.

Hard to believe that I was 116lbs on my wedding day 19 years ago.

Brenda...what is a Go Wear Fit?? I'm intrigued!

GoWear Fit (you can google it) is an activity monitor. There are some threads on this board about it as well. I'm sure there are some other options but this is the one I have.

I didn't mind the initial purchase cost but I would prefer it be a stand alone. Currently you have to sync it to the website - for a monthly fee - for the details. (It only holds about a week of data) I have the monitor as well and I highly recommend that. The graphs are very cool (yes I'm a techno-datahead). It monitors calorie output, steps taken, activity level and even sleep. I don't use it to monitor food intake (separate program for me) but I think they've expanded that use recently.

Still - it's worth it for me. :)

BostonWendy...two things. Do you live in Boston? My favorite city outside of Texas! And...the unprovoked aches and pains and creaking joints hit home for me. I'm 36 and waking up with foot heel pain and creaking joints and thinking...how old am I? It goes away with the weight loss, though.

Becky...I thought of you tonight when consuming cheese...that was hilarious! Have you read Sark's book about napping? It's devoted to glorifying all things nap.

I adore y'all...thanks for the hilarity!

Hi Elizabeth:

1. Could have adrenal burnout, if your adrenals aren't working that could contribute to extreme fatigue.

2. My family has following the Blood Type/Genotype diet for about 13 years. I am 20% body fat, my 2 boys and husband are about 7-10% body fat. Before we started following the diet(s), I suffered from extreme fatigue, menstrual issues, acne, migraines and body aches and I was fat. My husband had insomnia and terrible stomach pains. The reason we went to this diet is that my older son would continually have ear infections and constipation.

Once I took all wheat, sugar, corn sweetener derivatives, milk and cheese out of our diets, we all lost weight, gained more energy and had less health problems overall. http://www.dadamo.com/

3. For depression issues, you might want to read the Diet Cure and Mood Cure by Julia Ross. If you have been drinking Diet Coke and eating lean cuisines, you could have issues with low amino acids. FYI, serotonin is built from the amino acid tryptophan found in great quantities in turkey. Thyroid hormones are made from iodine (found in sea salt) and tyrosine which is found in beef. Humans need protein, some more than others.

4. You might also want to read Gary Taubes book Good Calories Bad Calories which goes into great detail about the science of dieting and how the information is sometimes published and many times ignored.

WOW! Thank you...everyone of you...for taking the time to respond so openly and thoroughly. I so appreciate it. I should have mentioned...I do not have any medical conditions...no sleep apnea (although I toss and turn all night) and no thyroid problems.
Becky and Wendy...you were so careful to go through each and every detail with me. I really do think the Lean Cuisines are full of chemicals and that has been a contributing factor. I'm also noticing increased sugar cravings...which, I think, means I'm getting it in small doses in the prepackaged foods. But I LOVE what you said about the time change this time of year. That has, in fact, been such an issue for me. And you are the first to say that you are more tired during some parts of the year than others.

I should also mention, perhaps, that I've been experiencing my first bout (in 35 years) with depression. I've always been such a happy and positive person...but lately overwhelmed with the ins and outs of making a living...and a life...as a single woman working two jobs. I'm also 1100 miles away from my mom and only family in Texas. So this may make a big difference in my energy levels. :) Don't worry, though...I'm seeing a wonderful therapist!

I'm just overwhelmed by all the wonderful responses...so glad to know you all are out there! I'll be looking for you here!

Warmest,
Elizabeth

Elizabeth, I hate to beat a dead horse, but are you sure you don't have apnea? Have you been tested? It is a condition that is extremely under-diagnosed. Even if you don't snore, I recommend getting tested, because if you have it and get treated, it really is a magic bullet when it comes to weight loss and energy-boosting.

Hi Jonezie

Here are two things that really helped me.
First - I started supplementing my Vitamin D intake. I get the Omega 3 and vitamin D liquid and just add it to my cereal in the morning. My husband swears by this. If you are stuck inside all day then you may not be getting enough.

The other thing is that you should have your blood tested for deficiencies. I was very low iron and was having a hell of a time staying awake. It seemed to come on out of nowhere and all of a sudden I needed naps with my youngest. Turns out I had celiac disease and a wheat/ gluten free diet has changed my energy levels around completely. I am not saying you have celiac but looking into your health and talking to you doctor is important.

If you are working out you should have more energy no matter what size you are.

Good luck
Heather
