Apple TV question

We have the 1st version of apple TV & I've been streaming Cathe Live for the past few years using airplay from my iPhone to our TV but in the past few weeks have had a lot of problems with the airplay getting dropped & booting me out every 2 minutes. I remember some others having similar issues and I've tried everything they have suggested. I'm wondering if we should spend the money on seeing if a new router would fix it or just getting the latest version of apple tv (where I thought Cathe now has been added to I believe apple TV 4?) that would make things a lot easier. Any advice?

Hi BlakKat,
Both Cathe Live and our OnDemand have apps available for Apple TV 4+ which will let you watch directly on your TV without having to use another device. Apple TV 1 is a legacy device now and that means Apple is not going to continue to release updates for it and eventually ti will no longer work. Your problem could be caused by either your router or your older Apple TV. You may need to replace both, but I would start with Apple TV since you will eventually need to replace it anyway. Also, since your streaming from your iPhone it means your router has to send the incoming signal to your iPhone and at the same time send the signal back to your TV. This means your router is performing double duty. If you have Apple TV 4+ your router only has to receive the signal, not send it. Hence, its workload will be cut way down.

I was having the same issue and didn't want to spend the money for a new apple tv or router so I purchased an HDMI to lightning adapter and hook up my iPhone (or iPad) directly to the TV. While it would be nice to go wireless, this works seamlessly with the Cathe app and I no longer have to wait to get my workouts started.

Thank you both @forum_admin & @NinjaMom for the speedy help! We did try the HDMI adapter also, but we didn't have enough ports on our tv so it was unhooking & rehooking cables each time for different uses so I think our best bet is to go with the Apple TV 4 and I'll justify it by putting the apple 1 in my daughter's bedroom since she doesn't have cable, at least it will give her something other than DVDs to watch. Thank you so much for your help!
