AOS Providence

It's funny that I found this thread today because I was considering purchasing the Providence DVD - that is, until I saw the price. I'm wondering is there anywhere you can get it for less than $49.95? The price seems a bit outrageous to me.

Amazon doesn't have it used.

Thanks!

Hi Susan,

Unfortunately, all of the KB workouts are really expensive! Perform Better had Providence on sale awhile back, so you might keep checking there, but otherwise, most of them (the AOS workouts, Lauren Brooks' DVD, etc.) are around $40-50.

Susan, personally, I must prefer doing kettlebells without a dvd -- I bought some dvds before I really got it, but now I just put on my ipod and mix things up. Maybe you could save yourself some money!

I haven't paid $50 for a workout since I was duped into buying the Firm workouts sooooo long ago - on VHS! Haha!

Little did I know they'd be practially GIVING them away ten years later!

I haven't checked lately, but the first "Kettlebell Way" workout (which is pretty much the same as Providence) was $39.95 for a while, and maybe still is.

Leanne! (or anyone who has it),

What's the deal with Firepower? Should I get it? I'm concerned that I need two KB's that are the same size. I don't have more than one KB of a certain weight. Is it worth the purchase of another one so that I have two of one weight?

What size KB do you use with this one? It looks soooo good but I don't know if I want to spend the money on a duplicate KB....

TIA!!

I had to post because I am really enjoying Providence and my kettlebells. I thought it was a great workout. I used 15, 20 and 25 kettlebells throughout. I also purchased the Empire state but am saving it for Christmas. I did preview and think it looks like a fun workout. Providence got my heartrate up in the 160's at one point, which is high for me . I want to purchase Newport too. I just had an e mail today from AOS and they have Empire State for 39.95 till 12 pm tonight on their 12 days of Christmas sale. Just a heads up for anyone interested. These seem to be some of the best that I have seen so far on kettlebell workouts.

Hi Allie,

I have Firepower. Anthony uses two kbs for Rounds 2, 4 (alt double cleans and alt chest press) and round 5 (seesaw press and renegade rows). I think you can get by with just one kb. For rounds 2 and 4. You can do one side for 30 seconds and switch and do the other side for 30 seconds. You need to use two kbs for the seesaw press but you can always substitute a push press and then switch arms after 30 seconds. You need 2 kbs for renegade rows but you can easily use dumbbells instead.

I have lots of kbs so depending on the move and how I feel that day, I usually use either 14#, 18# and 25# for double arm moves and 25# and 30# for single arm moves.

I like Firepower because you can pick and choose the rest period and how many times you want to go through it.

HTH,

Ok girls, if you find Providence easy in any way, you're not using heavy enough kb's! Providence is meant to be more of a strength workout, so you need to go heavy enough that the last part of the rounds are EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. Then, don't rest - jump rope, do burpees, mtn. climbers, etc. during the one minute between rounds.

As for Newport, it's meant to be done with a lighter bell, and you move more quickly during the rounds. It has more of a cardio effect, along with the muscle burn you come to love from AOS workouts. :) The one minute of abs at the end of each round is amazing as well.

I recently got Santa Monica, their newest work-along dvd, and it is probably my most favorite. It's a tremendous workout, and can be modified many ways.

I posted this reply earlier, but it didn't show up, so if it does, forgive the double post! If you are finding Providence easy, you need to use a heavier kb. Providence is more of a strength workout, and when you're close to the end of a round, you should be struggling to finish. Try upping the weight and I don't think the word "easy" will apply any longer!

As for Newport, you need a lighter kb. The pace is faster, and you alternate between two exercises in each round. After each round you do 1 minute of various ab exercises. This workout has more of a cardio effect, but you still get the muscle burn you've come to expect from AOS workouts!

I also highly recommend Santa Monica, AOS's newest workout dvd. It is a butt kicker!!!

If you're finding Providence easy, it's time to increase the size kettlebell you're using. :)
It's meant to be more of a strength workout, and by the end of each round you should be struggling to lift that kb. By doing jump rope, burpees, mtn. climber, etc. during the 1 minute "rest" periods, you can also give it a cardio effect.

Newport, on the other hand, is meant to be done with a lighter kb. You move through the exercises at a quicker pace, and each round contains two exercises, plus 1 minute of core/ab work. Newport is more of a cardio type workout, although you will still feel that burn you always get with an AOS workout.
