Anyone use BookSwim?

That's too pricey for me. I could buy used books at Amazon.com for much cheaper than that. $15 a month for two books?! I recommend Amazon's used books. I recently got an ex-library hardcover novel for $1.99. They have lots of even cheaper paperbacks -- some are even new and most sellers only charge media mail postage.

TRUE...and the library is always my first choice. However, there ARE times when my library doesn't have something, so I buy it used on half.com or amazon and donate it when I'm done!

I secong Half.com. And once you use it, it's even easier the second time. I have gotten so many books that people mention here. I have also tried paperbackswap and I'm less than enthusiastic about it.

And, if your neighborhood library doesn't have it, they can usually get it from one of their other branches. My local one is very small, but they've gotten books that I've requested from the huge main branch. I've never had to wait more than two days.

I agree. And many mid to large public libraries are also part of a larger (statewide and even nationwide) interlibrary loan lending network that can often obtain items for free.

I would consider something like that for a lower price.

I too use the library for almost everything. The biggest problem I've had is that I often like to read books that are very popular and have a long waiting list. For example, I once waited several weeks to get my hands on A Thousand Splendid Suns. Then I received it, but during a *VERY* busy time, when I didn't have time to read it. By the time I did have time (it took about two weeks for things to settle down again), the book was due, and I had to put my name on the very-long-list and wait several weeks again.

Wow Mocha...do you live in my town?! I run into the same problems at the library and this service looked "interesting" to me. I am with you this service could be cheaper. It is expensive but the advantage is that I don't have to wait for a book and I don't have to keep a book after reading it. I have bought so many books over the years that I am running out of room.
