Anyone up to de-cluttering with me???

Kathryn, one of the more fun things to do is a Fling. Run through your place and gather up 27 things to throw away, give away or recycle. Every little bit helps and it only takes a few minutes. I often find myself doing tidying behaviors while I'm waiting for water to boil or my coffee to brew.

That definitely sounds doable, even now with little time to spare!

I could do a daily "Goodwill fling" by running around with the big black garbage bags I use to donate stuff.

Thanks for the idea!

I love this idea!! I'm am definitely in. I am going to start with my office. I sold on ebay for years to supplement my income and I still have a ton of stuff on my shelves that need to be sold. I am going to go through all of it today and figure out what is actually worth being sold and what needs to be donated.

Next will be the catch-all drawers in the kitchen.

It's time to simplify my life!!

Maybe I can join?

DH and I have been considering moving closer to his job which is 1 1/2 hours drive away, nothing is holding us to stay in this town and the kids will just have to deal. Our oldest is graduating from HS in 2 months, and they all know we have been talking about putting our home for sale to move closer to dh job.

This means getting our house decluttered, and ready to show for selling.

With three kids and half painted walls and some DIY projects that my hubby started but never finished I am totally overwhelmed but I am so ready to buy a new house as I worry about his long drives when he gets off work at 1:30am.

But how do I start? Ack!

I'll come back in to toot my little flylady.com horn again because I think she's just great.

If you go to the website flylady.com she has a section on getting ready to move that walks you through all the steps.

I think it's WAY easier to move once you've decluttered rather than doing what my parents did which was simply pack up all the stuff and move it along each time.

When my sibs and I packed them up to move into their townhouse we found an unopened box from our San Diego to Chicago move - 1979 mind you. Once opened what did we find? Junk mail and coupons! Oy!

LOL.
Well I did declutter and got rid of my old WW, Women's Day, Oxygen and Fitness magazines I was holding from 2006 this past weekend.

Thats a start right?

If it were up to just me I would throw everything out furniture included and just pack our clothes, move & start fresh lol but thats not realistic.

I need to have a serious talk to my kids who have stuff in their closets that looks like clutter to me and just start a major throwing out useless stuff party.

I can't even save stuff to send to donate as it never gets donated and sits in boxes for months at a time, so all the clothes my kids have grown out of is going out along with bedsheets and curtains that don't even fit on my windows.

Actually looking forward to throw stuff out, mind you I have the rest of my family members who take stuff out of the throw away pile when I turn my back - yes its happened before. LOL

This is great! I'm so glad everyone is de-cluttering. I'm going to "try" and grab a handful of files from my top drawer file cabinet and go through them. Unfortunately I'm exhuasted because I didn't get much sleep last night. I'm trying to muster up some energy to throw a very small load of laundry in the washer. I've already pre-soaked a couple of things so I know this will get done before the end of the evening. If I sit here any longer though, NOTHING will get done as the couch is calling my body to lay (lie? never got these 2 straight :p ) down on it. My eyes are getting he-e-e-e-eavy!!!!!!

Bam:7

Kathryn,

I just threw piles of notes from my Masters and Doctoral days!

I donate magazines to my local hospital.

I donate old videos to the public library.

Now it is time to attack my makeup and clothing.

I just want to say a big THANK YOU for this thread! It really got me going yesterday. I kind of did a flylady no-no and didn't stick to the timer but it felt great. I did a 27 fling boogie in my office and then in the dining room. I then proceeded to spend 4 hours yesterday and 3 hours today decluttering/cleaning my office. Holy moly did it need it!!! I completely filled my recycling bin with paper, have two boxes to go to goodwill and lots of shredding to do this weekend. It feel GREAT in there!!!

Next is my bedroom - specifically my closet - so I can know exactly what I need when I goes clothes shopping this weekend!

OK de-cluttering ladies.... my dh & I cleaned the garage today!!! I have a lot of clothes in storage tubs that I've saved (with 3 girls I keep a lot for hand-me-downs from my oldest to youngest) and decided to go through them!! I have 5 garbage bags full of clothes for Goodwill, a few bags for friends/ relatives, and the rest to save for next winter/ larger sizes was condensed into 3 medium sized totes!! (yes, I had everything from infant girl- size 10's!!! ) Also, went through boots, shoes, and all sorts of other stuff. My dh cleaned off his tool bench and got that organized so we kept each other company cleaning. It took me a good 3 hrs to get that much done and it's all in the back of the van to drop off tomorrow!! :) Wow, I feel so accomplished!

Everyone's doing great! I'm primed and ready to move the shelves tomorrow after I drop off DS. There will be vacuuming going on and it bothers him so I'll just wait. Plus I'll need to use the beds for temporary holding so that is another good reason to wait.

The back of my car is full of clothes to be donated - I have clothes from baby size on up too and I'll be so glad to get rid of it.

Last time I was at my recycling area the clothes bins were full and the guy pulled up to take the paper container away so I'm behind!

Great job, Suzanne! It's nice to know that there's someone else de-cluttering with me!

BTW, I can't remember if I've mentioned it before, but I love your name! My middle name is Suzanne and so is my youngest dd (Allison Suzanne).

Thanks Jess! :7 I'm named after my mom's favorite aunt.

I'm playing here and I really, absolutely, have to get back to work! DX asked me to do extra duty today so I lost about 3 hours of work time on my big project.

Must get back to it before leaving for the remainder of the weekend.

But I did make it to recycling and emptied out my car - more room to toss more stuff!

Have a great weekend!

You're welcome Kelly!:) I'm glad this is helping. Actually when I posted it I figured there must be others like me who want to clear out their house of all this stuff that just accumulates and you have every intention of getting to it someday. You're all doing such a great job that I now have to catch up with all of you! :7 I did go through some files the other night, which was a start, but today I'm going to tackle one of my rooms in the basement. I have a lot of clothes from the 80's - you know the shoulder pad/football player era? They're really beautiful business clothes. I don't know that Goodwill or any other place wants dated clothes. I just couldn't throw them away. I used to work in corporate America but haven't for many, many years. Since I still don't know what I want to do when I grow up, I thought "what if I could use those clothes in the future? I could have them altered." I think I need to let that notion go and just get rid of them, right? (asked with a hesitating vibration.) Wish me luck!:)
