Anyone tried the Blood Type diet?

A friend recommended this book East Right 4 Your Type, which is about how your blood type determines what you should eat and how you should exercise for optimal health and to maintain your ideal weight.

I bought a copy and am wondering if anyone has experience with this? I'm not too convinced from what I've read so far (maybe because I'm not happy about what I shouldn't be eating or how I should exercise).

I'm Type A blood - which means, according to this book, that I should be a vegetarian (or at least no read meat). Well, I'm not too keen on that idea because if I can't have a good ol' piece of sirloin once in a while, I'm not a happy camper. (I eat red meat once, sometimes twice a week). Also, it says no tomatoes! NO TOMATOES?!?! Can you believe that? Tomatoes are one of my absolute FAVORITE foods (even more than a nice hamburger, which is saying a lot!) There are some things I can live without, but tomatoes aren't one of them.

Another thing it says is that I should concentrate on low impact, more relaxing exercise. Which means - no Cathe. I think THAT's ridiculous. I tried yoga for a little while and was not at all satisfied with it as a means of fitness. Maybe as something for clearing the mind, but I'm definitely much happier when I've got a puddle of sweat in my exercise bra. I also did Tai Chi, which was great for relaxing, but certainly not fitness.

So anyway...does anyone have experience with this?

This is a sham, end of story. My DH is a medical student and actually in one of his classes they brought this diet up and talked about it. It is false and is just another way to try to loop in people. Now that said I have a friend who followed it and lost 20 lbs. But really he ate every BUT the kitchen sink before he did the diet. All the diet did was make him more aware of his eating habits and that is why he lost weight. I repeat this is NOT FACTUAL, IT"S A SHAM!!!

What JulieMom said.

My take on the entire "diet" publishing industry (not to mention the "supplementation" industry and about 95% of the fitness-trend industry) is the Barnum-and-Bailey Principle. Don't be a sucker.

Cool! Then I will still eat those little grape tomatoes I put on my lunch salad!

Glad I bought the book used.
