I have been a popcorn addict for years, and love the microwave stuff, but sometimes can't stand the salt and worry about the other ingredients...

Sooooo, I found this fantastic microwave popcorn popper for about $9.00 that's just a bowl with a special lid. You put in your regular popcorn and put it in the micro on high for about 4-6 minutes (til it stops popping) It's as healthy as air-popped, but has more flavor.

To add extra flavor (not all the time, but when I need a splurge) I spray it lightly with cooking spray and sprinkle on salt, or other seasoning. The spray helps the seasonings stick but doesn't add a lot of fat. (I know it's chemicals, but it has to be better than the regular microwaved bag stuff) I got some kettle corn sprinkle seasoning (cinnamon, sugar and salt, I think) at Target (they had it for their own popcorn popper) that tastes really really good, too.

I used to live on airpopped popcorn - probably went through a popper every few months in college :) mmmmm...now I feel the urge to go make some, and it's way to late for THAT to be a good idea!! Maybe in the morning... ;-)

I have a popcorn popper that i bought in the late 80's that goes in the microwave as youdescribed. Where did you purchase yours? I'd like to buy another one.

Hi Judy,

Please do give an update when you use it. This looks like something I would try. It looks like it's mess free and easy to use.

That's the one I was talking about! :) I love it - even DH likes the popcorn it makes, and he can be picky (likes the full butter, salt, etc. stuff)

It is really easy to use - the bowl wipes out with a papertowel if you haven't put anything on the popcorn. It's also a good serving bowl, so it's not just another gadget taking up kitchen space with no purpose :) (Not that I can't find an excuse for those, though!)

The popcorn comes out fairly dry, but not as tasteless as airpopped. If you like seasoning, don't forget the cooking spray - it makes whatever you use stick to the popcorn.

Happy popping!

I am a popcorn addict. I eat it 7 days a week. I buy the 94% Fat Free Smart Pop by Orville Redenbacher also. I spray with a little butter spray and sprinkle with a little Molly McButter cheese flavoring. Yum! I'd like to cut back but everynight at 8:00 my sensors go off and I'm eating by 8:05, ha!

HI Nancy and Tracy,

That's my favorite popcorn too. Unfortunately, my grocery store stopped carrying the snack size bags so I had to quit buying it.x( I'm dreadfully lacking in self-control--I'll eat however much I pop.

Michelle, I'm the same way. I just can't get the hang of portion control. But a regular-sized bag of Redenbacher's has only 220 calories, with only 40 of those calories coming from fat. And it lasts for a full episode of Law & Order or CSI. So who needs mini bags?

Thanks Nancy--I just added it to my shopping list. I also watch the same shows you do--can't wait for the new season!!. We must somehow share a parallel universe:) :)

I LOVE popcorn!!! I buy all kinds of different flavored salts to sprinkle on the top. My favorite is nacho cheese. Just a little sprinkle and I can't stop eating it. :)
