Anyone over 59 doing Cathe?

I was wondering if anyone close to my age is doing Cathe workouts. The only two I can manage are:"Get in Shape for Your Wedding" and "Cardio Kicks". I do some low impact modification but they are still very tough and effective. Are any of her other workouts on the level of these two? I have done every workout known to man, and Cathe's are the hardest. I feel like if I am going to spend the time doing a workout, it might as well be effective. I'll be 60 in December and plan on working out forever and so far these are the only workouts I don't get bored with.:+

Hi and WELCOME!!! Good for you! I am 50 & 3/4! I would say that CTX Kickbox would fall in-between the two tapes you have. Also, are you interested in getting started with any of Cathe's other strength tapes? Any of the tapes can be modified by just using lower weights or doing less reps. I would say MegaStepBlast might be a step tape you would like. The choreo is a bit easier then Cathe's newer tapes. Let us know what you decide and we look forward to "seeing" you around here!

Hello and welcome to this wonderful forum. I just turned 52 this past August and Cathe was a God-send!! I now own pretty much all of her workouts, especially love the Intensity Series and have already pre-ordered the Body Blast Series, and aside from trying to master the step routines (i'm choreography challenged - sorry if grammatically incorrect) for a great cardio workout, her strength videos are the very best. I agree with Debbie in that CTX's choreography is not as intense as Cathe's newer workouts, and modification is always best especially if you run into situations where the knees or backs are being compromised. Cathe always stresses that good form is a must in your workouts. I also found that doing the step workouts without the step helped me tremendously. Give us a shout if you have any further questions. One super thing about this forum - we are an educated crowd and will respond to any questions or concerns you may have. Look forward to your posts.

Take care,

Iris

I am not, however, my Mom just turned 66 and she has been doing all of Cathe's weight tapes for the last year. She now has a full size step and a barbell and plans on buying the high step soon. I have recruited her.

Y'all, I LOVE this thread!!!

I just turned 48 and mentioned in another post (to the esteemed MaryAnn Parker!) that I have never been in such great shape in my life. I am just LOVING reading about all the Cathe-ites who are 50, past 50, 60 --- I plan to grow old with Cathe and with you folks, so it is just fabulous to see that I have all these fab fit companions!

We are turning out to be babelicious old girls, aren't we???:7

Hi Kathy S,

You'd better believe it that we are the babelicious "young" girls!!

I was surprised by a co-worker (literally less than 15 minutes ago) that left about 4 years ago and she was shocked when she saw me. When she was hugging me hello she kept saying how fit and firm I felt. Goes to show you that we can stop gravity dead in its tracks with Cathe. Not bad for a mother of 4 and grandmalicious (my grandson calls me that name) of 5!

Take care and stay young!!!

Iris

I am older than you and do most of Cathe's workouts. When Step N Motion 1 first came out, I could only do part of it and found those static lunges off the step to be very tiring. Even now, I seldom do all of Maximum Intensity Cardio and prefer the step portion of it. For me the most challenging workouts are Power Max and CTX Leaner Legs. I have all of Cathe's strength workouts and most of her cardio workouts. I concur that the CTX Kickboxing one and Cardio Kicks would be good with modifications. In addition, consider the CTX series, since the cardio portion is short, the strength portions are about 10 minutes, and there are varied abs sections including planks. With that series, you can do as much as you can handle and gradually progress. The workouts I do the most are Pure Strength, Maximum Intensity Strength, the Pyramids, Body Max, CTX and Ab Hits. Recently, I have lowered the step height to 6" and have learned the hard way to listen to my body and not go crazy overdoing it. I did that last spring when the Intensity Series came out, because I enjoyed the workouts so much. (I am modifying high impact moves a lot more lately.)

I have always exercised more for health benefits than for appearance, but even in my fifties, I gained great improvements in my physical appearance. For example, I have better shoulders and posture now, thanks to strength training.

Good luck with your workouts. What a great forum at which people of all ages share their experiences with exercise videos and DVDs.

RE: Y'all, I LOVE this thread!!!

:7 Thanks for all your input, ladies. My daughter has all the Cathe workouts, so I will see if she will let me borrow the ones you all mentioned. I also workout mainly for my health, now, but I wouldn't mind being a little (maybe a lot) firmer. In my job, I lift a lot of heavy boxes (up to 50 lbs.)-so that is another reason for wanting to stay in shape. I used to do the Firm tapes (in fact I started with them when you had to preorder them at $50.00 a tape), but I personally don't think they can compare with Cathe workouts.

Hi, I'm fifty in a couple of weeks. I'm choreographically challenged so I do a lot of kickboxing (all of CAthe's) and some non-dancy step as well as some floor aerobics. I do all of Cathe's strength and am working hard on getting through all of Boot Camp, although I do some modifications. Also I recently had emergency surgery to remove my spleen in April and have been back to all workouts since June. I do most of the intense stuff on weekends when I have more time, but workout on weekdays for at least an hour. I'm stronger than I've ever been even though I really don't eat clean. Even without the clean eating I'm proud to say I'm a size 6 or 8 and I'm 5'4". Glad to see this thread. We should all be proud of our accomplishments!!

It's great reading about all you 40-50+ women still working out and looking great! I'm 46, will be 47 in November, and am definitely in better shape now than when I was in my 20's and 30's... thanks to Cathe and The Firm!

Long time no see Kathy S!!! How are you? :)

Recently became 53. Thanks to Cathe I have more muscle than when I was in my 20's. ;-) I agree with the girls who suggested the Kickbox type tapes. Cathe's strength tapes are great as well along with modifications.
I was thrilled when I read the book BioMarkers by William Evans PH.D
back in the early 90's. Research showed that older ones could gain muscle mass by lifting weights. That thought was unheard of before.

This opened up alot of ideas and possibilities for me as well as give me hope. :D

Glad to have you on board and looking forward to reading your posts.

Hi Jeanne!

Girl, how ya doin???

I'm great, busy busy. I'm officially "retired" from law (at least for a couple of years) and am doing a lot of carpool driving for my maniac beloved boys. My younger son's in 8th grade and he and his pals are pubescent, stinky (they can NOT seem to remember deodorant!) and in the early stages of girl-watching. Really funny stuff. Meanwhile, our 16-year-old has his driver's license but, ahem, has been -- shall we say -- a bit rambunctious with his buddies lately, so he and some of his posse have been reined in by their parents. We have briefly suspended a lot of their "cruising around" driving privileges and have restored more visible parental supervision to their lives. Since I am an available mom and have a mom-o'-van, I'm squiring around a lot of handsome hunky high school juniors! They are graciously accepting of their temporary fate, I must say, so I'm able to really enjoy their company, especially knowing that soon they'll be on their own again and I won't be able to be the fly-on-the-wall listening with fascination to their guy talk. It's really been wonderful to get this glimpse into their high-school-jocks world. They are lovely boys and I feel blessed to have this time with them. ;(

Whatcha been up to? We really ought to get together -- think we ought to organize an Atlanta Cathe fest?

I have just found Cathe. I have been doing step and other workouts at our fitness center for 8 years. I am 51 years old and the step classes have lost favor here. The classes are way too easy. I am planning on ordering the Rythmic Step. Step is my favorite thing to do and I like choreography. I hope I have a lot of years before I have to slow down! Everyone over 50, YOU CAN DO IT! I found Cathe on a random search and I thought, Wow! this the the step classes I used to do! So to all you grandmothers out there, give Cathe a try.

I am "only" 41, but I just had to say how inspirational all you women are! I really admire your dedication. The main reason I work out now is so I can be as healthy and fit as possible when I'm older.

Susan...

I think all the time how you "younger" ladies are sooo lucky to have found Cathe at a younger age. I feel so fortunate to have found her at all, even if I am of the "older" generation! :7 I've learned sooo much and will continue to keep at it for years to come.

RE: Susan...

I am 60, have been doing Cathe for almost two years, especially the strength videos. Have bad knees so can't do step, am awful at anything choreographed, but love the weight tapes and the kickboxing. I adapt what I have trouble with, but working with Cathe makes me feel good...and I love pumping up my biceps for my kids...makes me feel sooo macho! Generally do Pure Strength with MIS and Power Hour thrown in here and there...just started slow and heavy and like it for a change of pace...find I am much stronger by throwing it in. Glad to see a "mature" convert. Welcome!

RE: Susan...

A while back on Oprah she had several women who are active and workout. What inspired and impressed me were the women in the age of 60-80 that worked out with weights. They did not look their age and were spunky and truly loving life and living! I'm 45 and look forward to the future as a strong, vivacious "mature" woman! You all are our inspirations!

Take care,

Vickie ;-)

RE: Hi Jeanne!

HI Kathy
I am Lisa and new to the forum have been lurking for many years finally decided to get in the reply and post mode I enjoyed your post here cuz it remends ne of my life I have 3 boys I am soon to be 42 My oldest just left for his second year of college My youngest is 14 in 9th grade I can really relate to the stinky however his group of friends seem to always remeber the cologne which may smell worse then the Body odor! My middle son is 16 soon to be 17 and he drives all over I have to rein him in and remind him a drivers license is not a given it is a privlege and he still has to check w/ me before leaving w/my vehicle I too also enjoy the brief momments when you can catch their comversation. It seems to be so hard to talk with them and get more then 1 syllable responses Corse Iknow this willchange as my oldest who is almost 20 seems to really enjoy telling about all his college experiences I l think I talk more to him and he is about 100 miles from home thank god for cell phones and unlimited minutes. I am a night shift worker so I am home all days and also feel blessed to be with my 3 boys well now 2 because Iknow it won't be long and they will be grown and gone I am really enjoying this forum and chatting with all of the very educated people I have been workign out for 20 years w/tapes and have been using just Cathe fo rthe past years as she is definitely the best I plan on really enjoying the new BB series I Love all other of her tapes I have them all! Ok I guess I have rambled enough I am at work I work the midnite to noon shift friday night and saturday so I have lots of time to check in w the forum I am a computer operator for health partners in Bloomington MN It is agreat job except the hours the hard part is just getting here.
