Anyone out there with chronic illness??

Hi Nora - so sorry to hear you aren't feeling well today. Box of chocolates indeed...I felt better on Thursday and did my workout. Yesterday I had a big concert with my choir, which required standing for a couple of hours and lots of energy to sing so I rested most of the day, no workout. I didn't want to risk feeling bad during the concert. Happily it wasn't too hot in the venue so I didn't get my usual balance/zaps that have plagued me before during performances!

Today is a lovely day, and I think I'll just go for a walk. My hip/leg is bothering me a bit more again today, likely due to the exertion last night. I'll check in later to let you know what I manage to do - I'm being pretty flexible for the next couple of days since I did have such a crappy week last week.

Thanks for the words of support, by the way, Nora. I've been dealing with the symptoms since the end of January of this year, but only seeing the neurologist since June, so I imagine if I do get my definite diagnosis, it'll be within 8 month timeline, much like yourself! Quite frankly, at this point I'm anxious just to get a diagnosis so I can get on a treatment regimen. I'm interested in hearing your experience with Avonex, actually. I've been told to look at the different meds to choose which one I'll go on once I get a diagnosis. I was thinking Copaxone....

I hope everyone is having a good and healthy weekend! Look for the 'official' start to this check in thread for Monday under the title "ONE DAY AT A TIME" - I'm so glad to be doing this with you all :)

Hey All,

Had to run shopping errands today with hubby (for home reno project) so was on my feet walking/standing for 1.5 hours...so no additional 'workout' walk as I was having leg trouble by the end of that trip. However, I did a lovely 20 minute yoga DVD, so not too bad overall for general activity, although nothing that really qualifies as a workout. The good news is I may get to go horseback riding tomorrow...and I guarantee you that's a lower body workout :)

I'll set up the check in for the week of Nov.14-20th with a little intro tomorrow to see if anyone else wants to join in.

And Cathy, many thanks! I'm watching a documentary about a group of breast cancer survivors climbing Kilimanjaro - now that's inspiring !! :D

Good Morning All,
Today was STS Disc 1 &
Circuit Blast Premix: Cardio Only &
Yoga Relax Premix: Express #1
for a total burn of about 628 calories.

Jennifer: In my opinion the yoga counts & the walk also counts. Any thing you do with pain takes extra energy so I think you did great:D

Take care all,
Cathy

Hi everyone

I recently started trying to do cathe's beginner step workouts. Its been hard for me to work up to doing those. I haven't been consistent due to Multiple sclerosis.

Since 2009, I have been trying really hard to rebuild my body after a major MS flare. It put me in the recliner for about a month, where all I could do was mostly sleep. I reacted to the steroids badly, to the point I saw three angels. I had to work on marching in place to build up any strength to walk. Then I did other easy beginner types of workouts in order to try to increase my strength. It has been such a slow journey.

I took copaxone for a year, but I kept flaring every other month.

I went on Prokarin patches this year and since then no flares. It also helped to improve my balance and strength a bit. However the rest seems to be up to me gradually increasing my workouts.

The MS affects me every day to where I have pain, spasitiy, weakness bilaterally, but the left is worse than the right, cognitive issues, balance, speech issues, and so much more. Workout wise, I have been consistent doing some form of exercise most days, even bad ones. But I am challenged everyday with symptoms. There is no rhyme or reason to it. Originally I was dx. as fibromyalgia. I knew it was something more than that.

I have to say I am so excited to meet other people with MS who are trying to keep on moving.

Welcome Rosepetals!!!

I'm glad you found us too - come join us on the **ONE DAY AT A TIME** thread for the daily check ins for sure. Even if you can't do a workout, just checking in and keeping in touch with others that have similar challenges is a great motivator, I find.

I am sorry to hear you've had such a rough go of it with MS. I have another website I will recommend to you, as I find the information really useful, particularly when I'm having a really bad day: ActiveMSers: Staying Active With Multiple Sclerosis

All the best,
Jennifer
