Anyone know what's up with New Balance shoes?

My favorite New Balance shoe is a Cardio Walk model number 1046 which I bought a few years ago. I want to buy another, similar pair, but now the closest thing they show on the New Balance website is a model number 791, and it doesn't even seem to have all the features of my older shoes. I was expecting the model numbers to be higher, and the new models to have improved features, but it almost looks like New Balance is scaling back on quality and features. Has anyone else noticed this?

Nance, I'd recommend calling New Balance directly and asking them what model has "replaced" the 1046. 800-253-7463

I have no idea what the numbers mean- or why they give the models numbers to begin with! I find it incredibly frustrating, myself... and I haven't been overwhelmed by the shoes either, so I keep looking and changing brands. ;-)

Since you probably can't call today, try NBWebexpress. They don't have the 1046, but do have others. Usually if it is an old model, that particular website will show what it has been replaced by. I've been wearing the same cross trainer and running shoes for several years now and they just up the number a digit or two.

Thanks, Tracy. That was helpful. It appears that NB has completely discontinued my favorite walking shoe. :( I'll go to the NB store tomorrow and hope they have something similar.

I forgot to mention that I just love that website! Once you order from them they periodically send you coupons for free shipping and 10-25% off. They also put the older models on closeout and if you check the site periodically you can find really good deals. I wear the 1007 and got it for 59.99 recently and it's a 99$ shoe.

It does look like the ultimate New Balance website! Maybe if I find what I want today at the store, I'll come home and order it online. }(
Are you a New Balance addict too? I can't imagine wearing any other brand.

i used to run in new balance only. they havent been fitting right for a long time. they started to run short and just not feel right. i found mizuno, asics and brooks fit me best. i do have a pair of new balance cross trainers for home workouts. not thrilled with them, but it works. i am limited due to my large size. i need mens shoes sometimes.

many running shoes tend to run a half to a full size short. keep that in mind. i still use running shoes to power walk. i like the shoes better.

i keep on trying other shoes. avia has new cross trainers, but i havent had success with them recently. as others, they run small.

Nancy, those are really cute! Personally I find shoe manufacturers to be absolutely infuriating. Just when you think they've "gotten it right," they totally ditch the shoes. Ugh!

I agree, Marie. But I think I may have done well this time. The guy at the NB store said that running shoes work fine for cardio walking. He said you can't wear walking shoes for running, but there's no problem wearing running shoes for walking. He also said that a "stability" shoe was best for me because my feet are flat as pancakes. The shoe I bought is a stability model, with lots of cushioning. Gotta love that cushioning! :D

Isn't that the truth! If there are tons of people who buy it, why not keep it around. Or, perhaps allow those of us who like certain shoes to special order it! I would pay the extra money for this service as I love my aerobic shoes:)
