Anyone know anything about Bowflex Dumbbells?

I am purchasing new dumbbells in the near future and was wondering if anyone has experience or owns the Powerblock or Bowflex dumbbells. Are they convenient? Do you have enough time to change the weight during a fast running Cathe DVD? I would certainly appreciate any feedback. I would love it if I could purchase a "set of dumbbells" that didn't take up so much space gym space and were convenient (and neatly went back into place..LOL!).

*sigh* Someday when I am rich and famous (or just rich), I will get those Bowflex/Nautilus SelecTech dumbbells. Our local bike shop sells them so I have had a chance to play around with them a little bit. They are truly fabulous. So easy to change the weights - just turn the dial and you're there. The nice thing about the SelecTech ones is that you can adjust the weight in smaller icrements (2.5-lbs) than other adjustable dumbbells sets (usually 5-lbs). This is really the only reason I would choose the Selectech dumbbells over any others. Like I said... someday when I'm rich... ;)

I looked at the Bowflex dumbells and decided to go with the PowerBlocks. Even though I loved the SelecTech/dial feature of the Bowflex weights, they are just too long. The PowerBlocks are much more compact, but I will admit that I have never used them in a Cathe workout because of the time it takes to make changes to the weights. So, I still have my dumbbells - 3-20 lbs. The primary reason I got the PowerBlocks was so I could have heavier dumbbells (up to 45 lbs.) without buying many separate sets of dumbbells.

I want these, too. I'll be moving sometime soon, and my mom uses all of my equipment (and Cathe DVDs). I'm afraid that if I take my stuff, my mom won't bother to buy them again, and she'll stop working out. So I'm very seriously considering these. I haven't been able to play with any yet. But I think they'll be good. Anything that saves space has gotta be a good thing... In the end, it really saves on money, too. Dumbbells are expensive!!

that informercial aggravates me!!!!!! the bowflex company spent years on infomercials singing the praises of their $1000-2000+ bowflex machine, stating it was superior, safer etc than dumbells.......and now they are selling these!!!!!!!! sorry, i wouldnt give them a cent!!}(

I have the Bowflex Select Tech Dumbbells and LOVE them!! I got a good deal without paying shipping and I will say I use them everyday. Sometimes in fast miving workouts I do pause to change them, but for most of Cathe and especially P90X they are great....:)...Carole

I think I may purchase the Bowflex® SelectTech™ 552 Dumbbells with the stand. It seems really versatile and doesn't take up too much space. Sometimes my gym looks like a bomb hit it after a Cathe workout(dumbbells all around) and I have to pause the DVD to find where I put the weight anyway....LOL.:) It sould like it works for you without too much trouble so I guess it could work for me as well.:) :) I also figured they would be a lot neater for sure. :9

Thanks so much for the recommendation....I put them on my Christmas list.

Hi, Robin.

I was fortunate enough to get my DH to get me Bowflex Select Tech Dumbbells last Christmas, so I wouldn't have to buy any more dumbbells and to save space. I was able to sell the weight rack and dumbbells I had. Even though I need to hit Pause sometimes, that's all right. With Cathe, sometimes it's a blessing!
