I'm 50 years young and have just done the fit test. I'm trying to psych myself up for the first workout but feel a little intimidated. Anyone else my age doing Insanity?

I just turned 48 last month, and yes I'm doing Insanity and loving every insane minute of it. I am not following Shaun's rotation because I wanted to feather Insanity in with my vast array of other nosebleed workouts, both home-ex DVDs and my aqua stuff, so I'm doing Insanity cardio on Sunday mornings, as well as alternating his Insane ab routines on Sunday mornings. Also this coming Monday I'll use Cardio Core Recovery (title?) as a chaser after my power step routine, and Cardio Recovery after my Wed. routine.

I love, love, love Insanity. I've been able to complete all the drills without flaming out, although every now and then (okay, okay, VERY FREQUENTLY) I need to pause more often than the workouts call for for water breaks, but I can just feel myself getting stronger and more powerful with Insanity in my life. And I love, love, love Shaun T - he's the perfect complement to Cathe!

Thanks for your input, I agree I felt empowered just completing the fit test. I don't think I could handle doing his workouts everyday though especially with my current sts 6 month rotation!

Well I did the first workout and I thought I was in good shape but OMG!! I had to take more breaks then they did but my heart rate never seemed to slow down. My the end I had a pain in my lower stomach don't know why. I'm scared to look at the other workouts!! lol

I'm 47 (I'll be 48 on Thursday) and I'm doing Insanity. I'm not following the rotation mainly because I love doing all my other workouts ~ swimming, running, crossfit and kettlebells. So I'm fitting them in where I can (like when the weather is bad). I've done 3 of the workouts so far and I'm loving it. I love this kind of drill work.

I'm 47 and doing Insanity. I'm also not following the rotation because I didn't want to give up my other workouts, but I'm enjoying it and doing just fine with it. :)

The workouts are hard, but very rewarding.

Happy Birthday in advance, Jane! :D I'm telling you now, because I know I'll forget by Thursday! I'm so forgetful! Do you find that in your 40's you need more sticky notes than you ever did before? ;)

I am 51 and doing Insanity going to begin week 4. I like the workouts and have been following the program but I am so used to variety that I think I am going to use them just as cardio - really miss my weights and my kettlebells.

Ladies....you are all so inspiring!

I'm waiting for my Insanity set to arrive so I can join in on the fun.

A soon to be 49-er.....
cheers Rosemarie

I am 51 and will start my 4th week of Insanity and I am really liking it with a few changes. Don't be afraid of these workouts. I think some of Cathe's DVD's are just as hard or harder. I did the first week just as the rotatation is written, but my knees took a beating. Also, I didn't like the long stretch after the warm up. I like to exercise at least 1 hour, and I do not like repeating a dvd in a week, so I made a few changes. First, I bought a plyomat. Next, I decided to start my workout with a warm up and first part of another dvd and then go into the warm up on Insanity, take a waterbreak at the start of the stretch and then fast forward to the rest of the workout. I then added lower impact workouts on the alternate days. So here is what I have done for the last two weeks and it is working out great for me and my old knees!

Monday: Hardwork 2 warm up and lower body. Insantiy cardio with resistance.

Tuesday: BM2 cardio premix.

Wednesday: 4D's Kickbox cardio premix. Insanity pure cardio and cardio abs.

Thursday: Low Intensity Circuit.

Friday: 4D's Bootcamp cardio premix (I skipped last three intervals). Insantiy cardio circuit.

Saturday: 4D's LIS/HIS cardio premix.

Sunday: Off!:D

I agree with Aquajock that Shaun T is a great compliment to Cathe.

Thanks for everyones reply. Not sure if I feel better or worse! lol Did anyone struggle through the first week and take more breaks?

Im 46 1/2 and I started Insanity and did the 1st week. but I began working ( Im a teacher) and stopped working out. I need to find the motivation and energy to start again. I really like the workouts. Shaun t is really motivating. I need to loose about 10lbs. But Ive having a hard time getting motivated to workout.

I had another question. I don't want to do insanity rotation. But would just like to do the workouts when I want and switch around them. Are alot of you doing this?

I am now in my third week of Insanity and I am really enjoying it. I have been following Shaun's recommended rotation. Sometimes I do add in a second cardio workout that I do later in the day. I still do my strength training workouts ( 3 day split.) You really need good supportive and cushioned footwear to do Insanity. I wear basketball sneaker for Insanity.

I have found that my HR recovery time has really dropped with Insanity!

I am going to do this beginning this week. I got a little bit bored doing Insanity so much, I was initially going to add CTX one body part per day to it and skip LL but then I decided just to use Insanity as a cardio option. I am going to do maybe 2 of them a week. The short ones as add ons and the longer for a full cardio day.

I like what you are doing Fitgrandma using another warm up and skipping the one in the Insanity workout - love that idea :)

Shoes, I use cross trainers, I already love drills and do them often, just never pushed myself as hard as they do in Insanity, I like a shoe with good lateral support - I prefer New Balance - the toe box is more comfortable for me than any other shoe that I have tried.

I did, I read on the other thread how easy some thought it was and I was surprised. I did struggle throught the first week and took breaks, I took breaks during the warm up :(. I have been doing Cathe for a long time, have all her workouts and the Insanity workouts gave me a run for my money.

I am 48 (49 in Dec) and have completed 4 weeks of Insanity. I am following the suggested rotation and have found that the workouts get easier as you move through the program. The first time I did any of the workouts I was pausing the DVD a few extra times but that quickly passed. It is intense, but it is exactly what I needed to shock my body past a plateau that was driving me crazy. I found following the nutrition guide stringently has really helped my performance in the workouts.
