Hi - I'm in Wiltshire and basically doing a roll call b/c it's SO hard to find any shops/online stores where I can purchase equipment to go with Cathe's workouts...

anyone else in the UK?

AND

where do you purchase your high step or weights from if I can ask?:)

Hello,

Try Argos if you want to buy weights. I bought my 50kg barbell set from there years ago and they still sell it for a very reasonable price. I bought dumbbells from another company, it's the traditional cast iron hexagonal dumbbells (2kg - 8kg) that you see in the older videos like Maximum Intensity Strength. It was cheap £80 for the set including package and posting. Alas, the company has now gone out of business so you can't buy it anymore, but other companies do sell them, try searching for 'hexagonal dumbbells' in google.co.uk. Argos also sell the dumbbell set for £200 or £600. Argos do most stuff for home fitness, you can buy stability balls, ankle weights etc. For the high step, I have not found where you can buy the same as in the videos. The Club Step is available but I can't remember which company I bought mine from.

Try searching on google.

I hadn't thought of Argos. I have the stability balls, a regular step etc - that's not the problem really. I just have a hard time getting the barbells, high step, and dynaband. I have tried to google them, but when I place the order the places say that they aren't actually in stock. So, it's not very helpful. Weights for £200 or £600 pounds? a holiday to orlando's disney costs about the same!

Hi, I'm in Eire where choice is even more limited.....I also bought my york and gold's gym weight sets from argos, unfortunately they are all spin-lock rather than the quick change spring clip - hence the two sets for a fast change over. I don't use the hexagonal dumbells as I think they are ridiculously priced compared to what I paid for them when I was in Canada, and shipping to Eire makes it doubly so. I use the plated dumbbells from the argos sets for the most part though I do own a few light dumbells equivalent to 3, 5, 8 lbs which you can pick-up reasonably from just about anywhere. I bought my club step and bosu on ebay from the US. The vendor I bought the club step from also sells the high step for $60, will probably cost at least as much again in shipping...but then the £ is hefty against the dollar. Link is http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Original-Heal...ryZ44080QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Also, www.physicalcompany.co.uk sells the original high step, club step, bosu, body bars, weights etc. on-line in the UK.

hope this helps you.
winnow.

hi again, just another thought....if you want to buy hexagonal weights in the UK the most competitive prices I've found are on www.powerhouse-fitness.co.uk - I think they will even match the price if you happen to find it lower somewhere else...not sure about that though. They sell them in sets and individually. I dismissed them as a possibility for me because of the shipping to Ireland, but they may have a better deal on weight sets then even Argos and you might even get the choice of spring clip bars rather than spin locks.

thanks for your help, winnow. those are some great links - and the ebay idea is a good one too!

i can imagine it's tough finding some of the equipment in Eire!

I posted a similar posting a few days ago. Many of the members have been very kind and helpful. I found the following link for a store which I believe is in Germany. It's free shipping to the UK and I don't believe you have to pay the customs fee:

http://www.sport-tiedje.co.uk/reebok/portable/rep_set.htm (reebok rep set, spring collars)
http://www.sport-tiedje.co.uk/reebok/portable/rep_set.htm (dumbell bar, spring collars)

The above weight set and dumbell sets use spring collars and are cheaper than getting the product from the US. I'm hesitant about the Argos set because I don't want to spend so much time switching between sets.

As for the step, the only thing I keep finding is the reebok step which is very popular. However, after checking the customs web page, a VAT less than 5% will be applied to sport equipment. That is odd given that if you purchase a DVD, they will charge you 17.5% vat on top of other fees. So it might be worth ordering the step and high step from the US.

Good luck!!!

Weights for £200 or £600 pounds? a holiday to
>orlando's disney costs about the same!

I know!!! I was lucky when I bought my dumbbell set because it cost me around £80 for the entire set, 2kg-8kg. To date, they have been the best bargain buy ever. I tried to find the company again last year but their web site doesn't exist anymore, so I think they must have gone out of business.

If you compare the other sites like www.powerhouse-fitness.co.uk, the Argos set is still cheapest. I don't know, it might be worth investing.

It's been a long time since I've had to purchase big equipment. I remember now that I bought the Step from the wwww.physicalcompany.co.uk. I used to be in contact with them years ago and I suggested about buying the high step to them. They are now stocking it. It's a horrible bright blue one (probably a copy of the real thing), but you can phone them up and negotiate a price if you just want to buy the high step. The physicalcompany.co.uk is a very good company.

The Argos barbell set is excellent. I did have to buy another barbell on it's own so I can change weights easier, but the barbell was so cheap £12 from Index catalogue, the Argos one is £20. The physicalcompany.co.uk also sell this bar. I love my York barbell, it's perfect for a petite woman like me. The bar is 5ft and the weight plates are from 1.5kg-5kg, but they are not big.

Actually, another company I forgot to mention is Decathlon. I've been in there a few times and they sell some barbells, but I thought the set they have were too big and cumbersome. I buy weight lifting gloves, dyna bands and some small weights.

Hi, I live in Hertfordshire - glad to see some other Brits on here!

Have you tried John Lewis? I got some nice handweights on their site and they were a reasonable price.
