I am moving from VA to AL in about 3 weeks. I am looking for some recommendations for movers! I have movers right now, but I want to looke elsewhere:)

Got any recommendations?

When we moved across country we used Atlas. My husband's company selected and paid for them. They did everything. The only problem we had was that they cracked the plastic on the back of a tv moving it in. But they gave us the money of the cost of the tv--plus we got to keep the tv which is still working just fine. I think they may be an expensive company, but again, we didn't pay for them.

I have moved 3 times with DH's company. No reccomendations for companies but I will say get at least 2 if not 3 quotes.

Like RunnerGirl said, get several quotes. We used Bekins on a long move and were very pleased. I think they were in the "middle price range" of the quotes we got but I had a better feeling about the service, quarantee, etc. The end result was positive. :)

Keep all your receipts!!! I don't know if you can still claim a tax deduction for long distance moves, but you'll definitely want to talk to a tax professional about it come tax time next year. I got laid off from my job in Florida and moved back to Indiana to find work and could have claimed a hefty tax deduction if I had itemized. That was eight or nine years ago, though. If you're moving for your job, you definitely want to look into this!

I've moved long distance three times (once from IN to WI, once from WI to FL, and then from FL to IN). I moved myself the first time, the company moved me the second (I think they used North American movers), and then I think it was North American movers the third time, as well. They damaged the paint on my car on the 2nd move, but they paid for all the repairs. They also damaged my TV and paid for that. Definitely look over EVERY big item they move for you and try all electrical appliances. If anything is damaged or doesn't work, file a claim with them right away.

When we moved from Cleveland to Chicago, we used Bekins and, unlike the pp experience, they were TERRIBLE...although, I think they are all owned by individual people (franchised, I think). They moved my buffet with ALL OF MY china still inside when they were supposed to pack the china (we paid a lot for them to pack. They also did not cover my very nice furniture, when I asked them to, and they knocked a claw off my dining room table footer...ahhhhhhhh THEY STUNK!
ahhhhh - They were also so late - we began at 7am and our furniture did not get to Chicago until 3 am the next day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ah, it brings back memories...
