Anyone else want start AM Cardio workouts?

I am thinking about splitting up my days........cardio in the morning and weights at night........... but I always find excuses to not get out of bed in the morning to workout! I need motivators! My rotation right now is pretty lengthy and I would like to get part of it done before going to work, so I can really focus on the legs at night and it won't take up my whole evening............

Anyone want to start trying to workout in the AM, maybe start with four days a week??

Anyone who is already doing this, what keeps your motivation high in the mornings and how long did it take for your body to adjust to getting up and going right into a Cathe Cardio workout or a jog outside!!?? Also what does your rotation look like? Do you do cardio 5X a week in the morning and lift 5X a week at night??

Reba,

I usually do cardio in the am and weight in the afternoon or evening. I own my business so I am felxible when I can work out. By am I Mean I do it anywhere from 6 am to 9 am. I do this everyday of the week. I occasionally skip a cardio or a weight workout but never more then one day a week for either. I feel bad mentally if I do! Sometimes It is hard to get going but if I can just get on the readmill or get started on the cathe dvd I usually after 10 minutes feel great and want to GO GO GO ! I do weights usually around 4 or 5 pm but have done them as late as 10pm.

I also workout both in am and pm. I wake up and workout at 4:30am. I am doing one of Cathe's rotations. In the evening around 5-6 I do either cardio or weights or both. I do this 5 days a week. I just started this. I was doing it all at once in the morning. I read especially in the Burn Fat, Feed the Muscle you burn for longer splitting up your workouts. Already I am seeing results.

Sounds like I need to try this again! I don't have to be into work until 8:30AM most mornings and my DH alarm goes off at 6AM every morning bc he is out the door by 7AM, but my job is only 5 mins away so if I start at 6:30AM I would have one whole hour to dedicate to cardio, its just getting started!!!

I may try to do this starting next week. I am a school techer so I am going to start doing my cardio next week within 30 min. of waking up and see how I do with a little o.j. Then breakfast then after dinner or right before dinner weight work(I'm thinking of a 3 day split). Then I will transition to earlier workouts on my teacher work week(I have to be at work by 8) then really early b/c when my students start my first bus usually gets there by 7:15. I'm thinking 3 to 4 weekday mornings of cardio and maybe a Saturday cardio and 3 or 4 weight work sessions/abs/yoga(T, Th, and Sat.) That way I'm only working out twice a day two times a week. I love my summer schedule and find it so difficult to drag myself out of bed by 4:30 to begin working out by 5.:-(

I work out every day in the AM 6:30 and 3 or 4 nights in the PM too. On those days it's cardio in the AM and weights in the PM. I only take one day off a week. I see a difference too Carla in doing 2 a day.
I like working out in the morning it sets my whole day on the right track. So I'll be here too.

I'm a horrible morning person, but I found out. Pushing myself out of bed, by moving the alarm clock, make sure it's a loud one, and put it on the other side of the room. You have to get up to turn it off. This only works if your SO is up at the same time or before you. Or they'll toss you out of bed.

But I've found my focus and energy in the morning has really improved, and it seems to really help me threw the rest of my day. As I got to be awake by the time I get to work.

Give yourself about a month to get into it. It takes that long to just start changing your bio-rythems, so don't push it, just try to get up, and get some water and breakfast the first couple of days. They get up and try working out once your a bit use to it, will help as well. As if your try to jump right into working out and your really not a morning person, you can crash and burn as your body divered it's energy still to whatever it does during the time you sleep, and you'll be fighting with it, to give it to you, to move your body and hop up and down.

One of the first things I do as a trainer when I have a client who wants to train at a different time, is simply have them get up, watch TV etc. Just the act of getting up and doing something easy, they we change it to cooking breakfast, and then working out. This is just behavior modification but allows you to work into it, and program the body to do this.

Ugh. . . I set my alarm for 5am, drug myself out by 5:50, and at this rate, will be exercising by lunch. . . How long does it take to get used to this?

Yikes! 4:30 am!

I do cardio at about 6:30 am. What keeps me going is how darn good it makes me feel. It gets the blood pumping, it wakes me up, it gets the adrenalin & endorphins flowing........it's like the second best way to start your day. ;-)

I work from a home office (own business), so I have the luxury of working out whenever. But, I prefer to get my workouts done in the morning (around 7-9am). I do one hour of cardio (Cathe's step) and then 1 hour of weights (2 body parts per day, or I alt "upper body" with "lower body" with a one day rest in the middle). I do cardio 5-6 days per week.

The latest in the day that I can work out enthusiastically, is by early afternoon (by 3pm). It just seems that if I wait until later, I'm just too exhausted (between my job, housework, laundry, running errands, making breakfast, making lunch, getting dinner ready, etc etc)...I can barely stand to LOOK at the step or my weights, let alone attempt to workout! :p And if I do workout late at night, I have a hard time sleeping.

So, for me, getting both cardio and weights done back to back, early in the day, is the way to go. Plus, I feel energized throughout the day this way.

I usually get up at 5:30 to workout. Usually cardio 5 days a week and 1-2 body parts per day for strength. I like to incorporate pilates 2-3 days a week. If I don't have time in the morning for pilates, then I usually do it at night.

I will change up my strength every 4-6 weeks or so for change of pace. I use to be a PM exerciser until about 6 months ago. I wouldn't go back unless I had too. I like having my evenings free. Plus I feel totally energized all day long.
