there have been some very, very interesting studies done on peri, pre, and post menopausal women and attention/concentration. seems that prior, many women "of a certain age" were coming to their doctors or psychiatrists saying they thought they had ADHD (with or without hyperactivity). the thing about an ADHD diagnosis is that is HAS TO have been present developmentally. you can't just "get it" all of the sudden. these women had NO prior history and that is a must for an ADHD diagnosis.
anyway, the research seems to show that as women age, the effects of menopause (any stage) and the hormones associated with it can produce a lack of focus, inability to attend for long periods of time, etc.
just another thing to look forward to, i guess!
