Anyone else incorporating running

Is there anyone incoporating running into their STS rotation for their cardio? I am currently training for a half marathon in May and run 4days, x-train 1day and sts wt train. I was just wondering how often you run and if your training for a race.

TIA
Tamara

Hi Tamara,

I typically run about 12 to 18 miles per week as my cardio (usually 6 miles per session, 2x to 3x per week, varied types: easy run, tempo run, and speedwork). I am not currently training for a race, but it helps me keep my pace/time. I also cross train with other cardio activities....
Based on your training schedule, it sounds like you may have to do cardio and sts on the same day 2x per week, if you want to workout 6 days per week - which is okay, but you should break out your sessions (I typically do the run in the AM and then weights in the PM). I would recommend doing sts on the same days as your cross train activity and your easy run (so you have enough energy for tempo, speed, and long runs as that is the only thing you would be doing on those days, along with enough energy to get maximum results from sts on days when you double up).

Hope that helps!

I will be starting STS on Sunday and have tentative plans to do a half marathon in May also. I just completed my first HM in January with a similar run schedule and Cathe weight DVD's

My schedule will look like like this:

Sunday- STS Upper Body & short run ( 2-3 miles) or no run
Monday- 5-6 mile tempo or interval run
Tuesday- STS Lower Body (and golf 18 holes when the weather breaks in the northeast)
Wednesday- easy pace run 4-6 miles and yoga class 75"
Thursday- STS Upper Body
Friday- long run 7 mile or more
Saturday- rest and possibly golf (see Tuesday)

I am doing STS and running 3x / week for my cardio. I am doing 1 speed/tempo day, 1 easy run day, and 1 distance day. The weather here has been perfect for pounding out the miles.

I'm currently doing CLX with running 3x/week. My first half is in April. Then I plan to start STS and continue running through the summer. My runs total 20-25 miles/week. 1 speed, 1 tempo, 1 long.

I'm considering breaking up the leg workout across multiple days - I really like that approach in CLX and find it's easier on my legs.

I am also doing a 1/2 marthon in April and just started STS. I have ITB problems and it's better if I don't run two days in a row, so I'm alternating cardio and STS days for sure. I need to work on mileage and I'm following a 10 week training schedule for running.

Day 1: run
Day 2: STS disc 1
Day 3: run
Day 4: STS disc 2 and run
Day 5: off
Day 6: STS disc 3
Day 7: run

So I'm trying to get in 4 days of running but at least one full day off.

I run. Twice a week I do 20 minutes HIIT on the treadmill and once a week I go for a longer run outdoors.

I am taking a couple of weeks off though to heal a sore hip. I miss it! But my hip is improving. I am going to have to lower the incline in the treadmill.

I'm training for a 50k on April 18th and doing STS as well. Here's my general schedule:

Mon: STS Upper body + abs
Tues: STS Meso 3 Plyo workout + 2.5 -3 miles of sprints
Wed: STS Upper body + abs
Thurs: Run 6 miles (intervals) + abs (if I have time)
Fri: STS Legs + 3 mile easy run
Sat: Rest
Sun: Long Run (ranging from 10 - 24 miles)

Thanks for responding

Thanks to all who replied! Trying to hammer out a schedule was driving me nuts! I was just wondering if 4days week running would keep me fit enough for my race. Some weeks I don't get in the day of x-training and opt for Weds and Saturdays off. Thanks for the suggestions and your schedules! I really appreciate it!

running

I'm also training for my first 1/2 in May. Currently: T, TH, Sat. I do STS in the afternoon after work. I do legs on Thursdays so that I have recovery time before my longer run on Sundays. I also do abs/core work at least 4-5 times per week. Running on Tuesday, Thursday shorter runs per my training plan, with Sundays being my longer run. Monday, Friday and sometimes Saturday I spin at a class at the Y, or use my bike trainer for an hour for xtraining. Wed. I usually take off. I'm fortunate because I'm able to wake up early enough to do my cardio, and I work for a school system so I'm home by 3:00 which gives me time to get an STS workout in. I'm also trying harder to get some GOOD stretching in and use Graham Streets PNF (pneuro muscular facilitation) at least once a week which has helped me stay injury free.

good luck with your 1/2.-judy
