Is anyone doing Alwyn's Afterburn Program? Any comments?

Also, how many days/per do you have to work out and how much time? thanks.

Come to the check in forum and look for the check in entitled "Alwyn, kb, tt, xer's, etc" or something like that. When it started a couple of us were doing Afterburn. Now one girl in there is. I did stage 1 and then got exercise ADD and had to switch it up! LOL It starts out with 3 weight work outs (about an hour give or take) and 3 HIIT work outs (20 mins each) per week. There are 4 stages and he changes the work outs with every stage. It's a fantastic program and I WILL get back to it but right now is not a good time for me to do a program like that.

HTH a bit! :)

Hi Pharma-gal,

I'm currently doing Alwyn's Afterburn. I will do my last weight workout of Stage 2 tomorrow and start Stage 3 on Monday. This is a great program. I've seen awesome results so far, and I can't imagine they won't continue when I peek ahead at the next stage. So far I've lost a couple pounds scale weight, and I've lost 3-4% body fat (depending on the day) according to my scale. While I doubt the accuracy of the scale numbers, I'm using that as my guage and it's showing a downward trend and that's really what I care about.

Stage one exercises are three sets of twenty reps, but off the top of my head I can't remember what the actual exercises were. Stage 2 is circuit style with three exercise per circuit for 3-4 sets of 12 reps. It's intense. I've only looked briefly at stage three, so I can't tell you exactly what the set up is, but I can tell you that it scared me a little bit  It looks like a toughie. In the book he offers nutrition and calorie guidelines, but no meal plans or anything like that. The entire program is 16 weeks long.

I personally think it's worth the purchase. I've tried Body for Life and New Rules of Lifting for Women, and while I liked both those programs, I didn't see the changes with either like I have with Afterburn. If you decide to go for it, make sure you join us at the check-in as Wendy suggested!

HTH,

Jen

Wendy and Jen -

Thank you so much for your replies. The program does sounds intense but effective. Are you also follwing the suggested diet? Im guessing he has a formula to calculate the cals and a general nutritional breakdown? thanks a lot!

R.

He does have a formula for calculating calories and for setting up your macros (40/40/20 or 40/30/30, I think). I'm really not following the nutrition aspect right now, though I know I should be. I think I calculated 1500 cals/day by his formula, so I try and stay close to that everyday, and I emphasize getting protein at every meal, but I am far from following it perfectly. I have to say that I had a very good diet through stage 1 and saw results, then about halfway through stage 2 I slacked off a bit and now feel like my results have slowed some. But I recognize that it's my own fault, not the program's. For stage three I'll tighten up my diet again and I'm sure I'll have more improvements along the way.

Jen - thanks a lot..Thats exactly what I want..I dont want to be obsessive about the macro breakdown..I have done that in the past and it is mentally very tiring..I will try to keep the cals in check and get as much protein as I can with moderate carbs..thanks a lot!
