Anybody see the new Pirate of the Carribean Movies SO HOW WAS IT?

Hi Kassia,

I saw it last night and I give it two thumbs up! The time flew by which for me is good as two and a half hours is a long time for me to sit. I was surprised when it was over as it didn't seem that long. Which for me is a sure sign it held my interest :)

WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILER POST!!!!

We saw it. I bought tickets ahead of time on Fandango and I'm glad I did. All shows except the midnight one were sold out.

This one is darker meaning it's more serious and intense. The character of Jack wasn't as fun or carefree but he may have played it that way on purpose since he knew his 13 years as captain of the Black Pearl were up and Davy Jones was coming after him. Most of the jokes were references to the first one so if you hadn't seen it you may not have understood why the audience was laughing and clapping. What amazed me was how much people in the theater were SO into this! It was a lot of fun to be there! Either that or people here just enjoy things more. They all clapped when the movie was over! I haven't seen people do that in a very long time.

It seemed like Johnny Depp took a while to get back into this character, but again it may have been played that way on purpose at the beginning of the movie. There were certainly enough glimpses of the Jack we loved from the first movie, but you also had a sense he wasn't as carefree as before.

It was very well acted by all of them. Kiera Knightly and Orlando Bloom were even better in this one than in the first. She is so gorgeous and is well on her way to a fantastic career. It's hard to believe she's only 21. She has such a maturity about her. There were some plot twists that surprised me but I liked them! Much more intrigue and betrayal than in the first, but it served to move the story along. Norrington's change was a huge surprise!!

The two and a half hours did go by quickly. There is constant action and some of the fight scenes are hysterical. It's a very engaging movie. I can't wait to see what happens in the third one.

RE: WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILER POST!!!!

Kassia, there were jokes, but I think if you had already seen the first one you'd realize most of them were simply references to jokes from that movie, and not really "new" ones. The overall movie had a different tone to it, if that makes sense. Either that or I just need to see it again when I'm not sick. I'm getting a cold or something and didn't feel well last night. :(

There is one scene where Jack has somehow managed to make himself chief to a tribe of cannibals, and that has some new things in it. That was the Jack from the first movie all through it!

RE: WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILER POST!!!!

I really enjoyed the movie a lot! I thought Johnny Depp's character was really funny and there were some very funny scenes. However, I never saw the first movie so I can't compare. If this second one was more serious and the character less carefree, I really must rent the first one! I loved this movie and the character, so the first I'll probably adore it! Can't wait.

I have to admit, I liked the first one much more, but this one was still good and a fun watch. I'm a big fan of the series anyway, though, so it would take a really bad Pirates movie for me not to like it ;).

I enjoyed the movie. It had some great humor to it as did the first one. Also, there are references to the ride, too. Anyway, the time just flew by and before I knew it, the credits were rolling. Can't wait to see the third episode.

Loved it! I agree with Carol's recap of this. It was a bit more serious but I loved the story and loved the special effects. Time did go by quickly. I'd say it's a must see! :)

Just to let you know this was the first movie I've been able to get DH to since Terminator 3. We always wait for the DVD to come out. He loved it too! :)

Okay, was anyone else fanning themselves profusely during those "almost" scenes with Elizabeth and Capt. Jack? WHOOOO BABY!

Loved it. Loved the ending. What a surprise!

I can't wait to see the flim after those great reviews. Unfortunatelly I have to wait until the 11 of august. It is going to be a long wait. One of the inconvenients of not being american. :-(

Thanks Shelley, I loved this movie as a kid, and still do as an adult. This is a great movie! It really brings out the child in me, and I can't help but when I see it the song of the ballroom scene (There's such a sad love deep in your eyes...) stuck in my head all day.I recomend this film to all lovers of fantasy, young and old.
