Anybody run into this?

HAve any of you had good friends or even family who are all about supporting you when you decide to make a change and take care of yourself and your body, then when you begin to make serious accomplishements the support becomes a hidden chop at the knees.

Something like: "Girl, maybe you're losing too much weight, you don't want to lose that butt."

Or: "You gaining too much muscle, you don't want to look like Arnold."

Or even: "Maybe you should just concentrate on cardio!"

UGH, it drives me crazy. There are the same people who go home everyday and sit on the couches to watch TV all night!!!!!

IT so infuriating, and it makes me feel bad. x(

Hi Millie:

YES - I can totally relate to your dilemma. My family and friends think it's great that I'm going to make positive changes in my eating and exercise more to lose weight, BUT if that means 'partying' less, not as many beers as usual or having salad instead of pizza they go crazy and tell me to wait until after that night then I can start tomorrow. }( }( }(

I get very frustrated and end up hiding my efforts because I get sick of the confrontation and trying to come up with answers that will satify them so they leave me alone about it. In reality I could really use their help.

But ya know, I know people may think that they aren't very good friends if they don't support us, but I think they just don't understand what it's like to want to lose weight or improve on our fitness levels. UGH - I feel your frustration - maybe somebody here will have some good advice for us. :)

Take care and good luck,
~Marcia~

Or they'll say I'm obsessed. Do they think I'm going to exercise myself to death? I'm in this to be healthy, for heaven's sake.

i do get this as well but then again i also get it from someone who doesn't eat well or work out and drinks and smokes heavliy. so its just something i let roll off my back. i am going to live a way more fulfilling life b/c i have the ability to run without losing breath the first mile LOL. sounds mean but it keeps me going sometimes.

Welcome to my world. I used to hear all that you did/do too. Now, I don't even mention it. If anyone ever mentions exercising or what exercises are good.... I don't EVER respond. I'll maybe answer a question, but that's it. No detail. I will not ever offer advice. When food is out, I just say "no thank you". Back when more comments were made, I'd say something like - that food really upsets my stomach.

btw, I saw your cruise pics. I love cruises!! My first one was with Carnival too. We were on the Paradise (family, non-smoking).

Susan:

GREAT RESPONSE - "that upsets my stomach". I like that one, I will have to swipe that phrase from you.

I guess I am blessed...my friends and family have accepted my "obsession" (as some might call it) w/exercise...I get ribbed more about my eating habits than my exercise habits. If I refuse desert at my inlaws it's like I'm from another planet! LOL

DH is VERY supportive of my efforts and I am sooo very thankful for that. He puts up with healthier meals and with my need to work my plans around my exercise at times so that I don't miss a w/o although it doesn't always work out in my favor but such is life I guess!
