anybody here stop working out for a week i heard its good to change things up or complettely stop working out for a week i am like most of you i could not completely stop working out but i did pilates and walking for one week which gave my body a change i was bulking in my arms doing cathe. slimed down doing pilates but now i need more strenght this week will be nothing but cathe for upper and lower. lower with no weights i bulk too much too fast in legs.it take a while for me to bulk in arms but i do bulk eventually bulk in my arms too.i am a pear shape. although i want that healthy body look which to me the too skinny look looks sickly to me and lifting weights help my back pain.but i have to cut the weights down when i bulk too much.Anyway the change did my body good now i can challenge myself with weights again

I have, but usually only when I've got a cold or am feeling particularly lazy. It is good to take a break and I think that a week off is nice, but it's so easy to extend that week into two...three....months...

I have never taken a solid week off unless I've been sick and simply could NOT work out. I get antsy and cranky when I don't exercise so it's simply not worth it for me...I have switched to a lower intensity or shorter work outs for a period of time to give my body a break of sorts and that is okay for me but to completely STOP for a week? Nope, can't do it!:)

I do (especially when focusing on lifting). I find the results are VERY good I'm able to build muscle faster after a week off.

I learned this from a guy friend about 20 years ago who was very much into lifting and it sure worked for him.

I never plan to take a week off because old fumbling, klutzy me always gets some type of injury. I can always depend on myself to slip, fall, have something fall on me-so I don't need to schedule something off.

I have, but I didn't plan it. It actually worked out fine, and I came back stronger. (The trick is to make sure it is JUST a week, and doesn't become a slump--which has happened to me in the past, and which I'm wary of now).

Also, when I went to London for a week 1 1/2 years ago, I didn't do any formal working out, but walked EVERYWHERE, which was like doing a different type of workout.

I am just coming off a rest week. I usually take a week off, but normally not planned- sick, travel, etc. This time I planned one and it felt really weird. Got back on track yesterday and it felt so good to workout. A lot of experts recommend a break every 2-3 months.

I recently did not work out for 10 days straight, because of the move. I actually lost weight and see more definition. Of course I was lugging boxes, cleaning etc., so I was getting old-fashioned exercise!!

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ‘Wow - what a ride!’ — Peter Sage

Only if I'm sick or on vacation. When I go on vacation I have every intention of working out but usually don't. I guess I literally take a vacation from everything. It has been a LONG time since I've taken a vacation that lasted a whole week and my vacations are usually mini getaways lasting a weekend or 3 to 4 days. Usually when I've missed an entire week of workouts, I'm sick. I've learned the hard way to take the time off so my body can recover from sickness and not relapse and be out of working out even longer. I too, hate missing too many workouts and get quite irritable if I'm forced to miss too many sessions.

I do , about every 2-3 months, planned, and got the idea from this forum!! It is hard, but I find it to be beneficial, especially helps prevent overtraining injuries, which it seems I'm prone to.

Only when I'm sick, which is probably nature's way of telling me I should actually be taking a planned week off. Also, my workouts have been pretty hit and miss the entire month of June because first I was sick and then I moved, and now I have a friend from overseas staying here for a week. I have no idea how it will affect me to keep missing workouts--will see!

I've tried several times. I am actually supposed to be on a "week off" right now, but just finished Imax 2! I found that when I try to take time off, I end up going astray on my eating habits, so to me it is not worth it. I've struggled with my diet for a long time and working out using rotations has really helped me to focus on eating clean so I like to stay in that mindset.

I have tried working out for two days, like one day an intense cardio like Imax 2 and the next day total body strength training like Muscle Endurance, then taking the next 2 days off. But that's about all the time I allow myself.

Take care, Melissa

I've found best results when I take time off from lifting. Seems my body comes back much stronger.

I guess I don't go crazy with a week off - it's time to focus on other things - more kid time, out with friends, extra reading, house stuff. Always something to do :)
