any success with winsor pilates as a low impact alternative

Don't get me wrong...I love my Cathe workouts--but, they are too intense for me to do on a daily basis.

Wondering if anyone has had success with the Winsor Pilates system???

Sam

Hi! I have been using WInsor Pilates for the past year. It has helped me become so much more lean and I lost just about 20 pounds. I felt I was a little too muscular so I started with her original set of videos and have since progressed to all of her new ones. I found them through Collage Video.
My legs are about 2" smaller and my hips are 3 inches. I started by doing the WInsor program 4-5 days and Cathe's cardio about 4 days a week. I now do Cardio 5 days and Pilates about 3-4 times. I also do a total body strength vid once a week( Bootcamp, BodyMax etc..)
Hope this helps! Susan

RE: any success with winsor pilates as a low impact alt...

Sam, I've done pilates matwork for several years & love it for flexibility, core strength & even balance now that we use the BOSU & fitness balls. I still do traditional weight training but I like the pilates isolation exercises - especially the back & leg work.

I have not done any of Winsor's workouts but they have a good reputation. I do not like Winsor marketing which claims that pilates is a fat burning, weight loss wonder & the wording of your post leads me to think that you might consider it a cardio alternative. It is not.

Pilates is a great follow-up to a cardio workout. While the marketing may be misleading, the Winsor workouts do have a lot of fans, & many are pretty time efficient. The beginner ones are often at the big box stores at a good price.

debra,

thanks for your input.

I am not looking at the pilates as a cardio workout as much as I am hoping it might be an effective "body sculpting" alternative as opposed to lifting weights. I just don't want to spend time on something that is not going to be as effective as the weights. (because I have very little extra time to spend as i have two kids and a husband (actually that would make 3 kids!!)

I am right there with you Sam! I also have 2 kids,a hubby and a puppy so I get pressed for time! Since I have all the Winsor videos there are days I only do her Advanced 50 minute tape and no cardio then another day I'll do a Cathe cardio video and maybe a 20 minute Pilates. Sometimes after the kids are in bed I'll go down and sneak my Pilates in since it's a nice quiet form of exercise! Susan
