any sewers out there?

OK this has nothing to do with fitness but I'm at a loss. I'm making my own curtains for our new house. We have extra long windows, and a lot of them, so it would cost a fortune to cover them. I made panels to go in the office and dining area. I wanted to put in the large silver grommets but I can't find the kit or grommets that size any where. I've tried all the fabric and craft stores around. I went online but it would have been cheaper for me to buy the custom curtains with the price of the kits and grommets. Any help or tips you can give me I would REALLY appreciate. BTW, I tried the curtain clips and they didn't hang right. I guess the fabric is too heavy. I'm kind of new to sewing but anything to save a buck right?;)

Have you tried Home Depot or Lowes?

The woman at one fabric store had mentioned that but when I searched online for it, curtain panels with grommets came up. I guess I have to go over there and actually look myself.

Did you try searching the internet under 'grommet setter'? I tried that phrase and came up with several listings (didn't check them all to see what size they were, though).

hi there. unfortunately even if you did find the grommets, . . which are not that expensive the setter or the contraption that puts the grommets in is extremely expensive. i used to sew corsets because i love historial costume and i remember paying $150 for the setter. have you thought about sewing tabs on top?

That's what I'm finding, that the setter is really pricey. I guess I'm going to have to re-work the design, possibly tabs. I'm really bummed though because I was going for a modern look and I thought the grommets would work. I can't justify to DH spending that much on the setter when I could have bought the two curtain sets for around thatx( Oh well, live and learn I guess. Thank you all for your help.

Hi I know there is a store called Michael Levine in California. I shop there all the time and the size of grommet you are looking for cost about $1.50 each. they do have a website i believe. you should not look for those items in the craft store or local fabric stores. you should look for it in the home decorating warehouses. then it will not be expensive

I sew and also own a boat. Well, let's just say I became a much better sewer because I own a boat :) . I have a cheap setting tool but it's for small grommets. But I was thinking that maybe you can purchase the grommets (try googling 'upholstery supplies') then take your finished curtain panels to an upholsterer and have them set the grommets for you. Give your local guy a call and ask. Maybe it's not that expensive.
