Any kettlebell instructors out there?

I would love to become a kettlebell instructor and add it to my personal trainer cert. I found this link with the following 4 organizations that teach kettlebell instruction. Anyone have any experience with them? I'm sure the Dragon Door is amazing and maybe the most "official", but it's also $2600. I'm leaning towards AOS.

Dragon Door
Art of Strength (AOS)
IKFF
Kettlebell Concepts

Hi Sandra,
I'm getting certified through AOS September 11-13th. I can't wait! I originally was going to certify through IKFF but changed my mind. I really like Anthony's style/philosophy. I feel that I'll learn alot and the experience will be life changing. A friend of mine is getting certified through IKFF next weekend. I'm sure he'll fill me in with all the details when he gets back. I'll let you know how it went for him and for me if you'd like. :)

I'm not a kettlebell instructor but my old trainer got certified through RKC (Dragon Door). She said it was the hardest 3 days of her life and that she actually cried during some of the workouts. She had to do a snatch test with a 35# kettlebell but she said that was nothing compared to the workouts they put you through. I think the RKC is the "Gold Standard" for kb certs but I think the others would be just fine too.

Shirl,
I'm so excited for you!! PLEASE let me know how it goes!! I'd love to hear about it, also how your friend liked the IKFF program. After looking at each website and the programs I'm pretty sure I'd like to get certified with AOS but I'll wait for your review. Thanks!! :D

Hi, Thanks for the input! I've heard (read) the RKC program is grueling and that the failure rate is 35% for the cert class.:eek::eek: It's way out of my budget anyway. Yeah, all four are listed as credible certifications, so I'll probably go with AOS next year. Thanks again. :D

Could you imagine paying all of that money for the certification class (not to mention travel might be involved) and failing  I know they give you the opportunity to try again, but I am sure that's for a fee.

Hi Sandra,
I completed the AoS course this past June. I've been an avid kettlebell lifter since Nov 2005, and I've followed closely the teachings of Anthony DiLuglio. I love his style and his emphasis on generating top notch, competent instructors. The value is tremendous. I also support RKC, but for different reasons. I do plan to take the RKC next year, but in training for it about a year ago (and not going through with the course), I found myself focusing on myself and passing the test vs. my ability to effectively teach.

I think that you will benefit from both, but if you're looking to teach others right away, my recommendation is to start with AoS.

The other certs that you mentioned are equally good. It's just that some focus more on competition style of KB lifting, which is a sport in and of itself.

Best of luck to you, and feel free to email me with any questions that you might have about the AoS or RKC. There is no right or wrong; there is value in all of these programs. Just choose what works best for you :)

Good luck,
FitGirl-ATX

how did your friend do at the IKFF training? Please give an update when you can! Thanks :D

Hi Sandra,
He said Steve Cotter and Ken Blackburn were amazing but that Ken was a better teacher. Ken gave some great pointers. My friend and I are going to get together soon so he can go over the pointers with me. They focused on KB competition style lifting which my friend has decided to train for. I'll give more details after my friend and I get together. :)

Hi FitGirl-ATX,
Congratulations on completing the AOS course in June! Did you send in your test yet? Do you have any tidbits that may be useful for me? I am so excited about the course! :p
I've been using kettlbells for a little over 2 years and I considered the RKC training but decided to wait and I'm happy I did b/c I too love Anthony's style, teaching philosophy, etc.

Thanks for your input! :D
