Any Cathe fans like Mindy Mylrea?

Hi all! I am looking for a few extra videos to add to my collection. I have been investigating different instructors and would like to hear what you all think of Mindy and her workouts. I got quite a bit of information from videofitness, but wanted to know what Cathe fans thought. I am specifically thinking about getting Slammin Sports or Extreme Intervals. But I would love to hear any comments about Mindy. Thanks for your time. Heather

Hello Daisyheather! I have Slammin' Sports Cardio, and it's GREAT!!!! It's a heavy duty workout that is easily learned. And she's quite funny! That is the only tape with her that I have at the moment -- but like I said...it's an awesome workout. HTH :)

Hey Heather.....

I love Mindy's Tapes! I have several of hers.... The Medicine Ball tape (see thread below) and most recently I got her Body Bar workout. Most instructors have their "style" which they maintain through their videos.

Mindy is very athletic-ey and chatty. I love it! (Think fast football drills ~ double time, I feel like a teenager in high school football practice!). This is the type of signature moves!!!! I enjoy her interval work and although I cannot keep up with her on some of the fast moves, I do the best I can! (She's got shorter legs then me, so she can move quicker. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it...)

Her Body Bar workout and Extreme Intervals (style and intervals wise) are quite similar and actually so is her Medicine Ball one. I would stay clear of Action Packed as her FIRST tape, as people have complained that the cueing is a bit off and it's tough to keep up with.

CIA's 2101 Extreme Intervals plus Pump Party is a keeper. It's 2 workouts in One with an interval one and some light weight training! Good bang for your proverbial buck!

Another word of caution: Mindy can be high impact. And modifications may be necessary if you do not like impact!

I just happen to love Mindy's workouts and think they compliment Cathe's QUITE nicely! :)

Just my $.02.

Another Mindy fan

As Cleda said, Mindy's workouts complement Cathe's very nicely. High impact, high intensity, but different moves and style than Cathe. I am one of those people who find Mindy's chatter very annoying, but I am willing to put up with it because I like her workouts and find them very effective and challenging. Like Cleda, I can't keep up with Mindy because she is so fast - hers are the only workouts that I have to drop to a 6" step for.
I think you will enjoy either video that you are considering - they are both great workouts!
Have fun!

Just a word of caution, both tapes (Slamming Sports Cardio & Extreme Intervals) are interval training workout. Supposedly, you could only those 2X a week. I have Slamming Sports Cardio and hardly do it just because I usually use Cathe Interval Max and Gin Miller Intense Moves for my interval. I wished I got another Mindy's...

I bought one of Mindy's tapes a year or three ago. I think it's "Slammin' Sports" or "CK # (sorry, I can't remember the number -- the mind is the first thing to go (the thighs are the second).

I tried it twice but had to give up in frustration. I wanted to love it -- Mindy is such a sweetie -- but it's nearly impossible for me to do. It took up too much space for my tiny livingroom. I had to constantly manoeuvre my step for every section and even then I was kicking a wall -- my footprints are still on it. Plus, I didn't like stopping to dismantle my step (it's a Reebok and I think you need Step Co.)so I could do the football drills. Once again, I was either running into a wall, the bookshelves, the TV, or putting my feet in the cat's water dish. Incredibly frustrating!!!

I also don't have much patience. Just give me a cardio tape to get the job done (like Step Works, Interval Max or MIC) and I'm a happy camper.

Maybe Mindy's other videos don't take up as much space. So don't let me talk you out of it -- give it a whirl!

Just my .02 cents. I hope you enjoy your purchases!

Thank you all so much for your fast replies. Wow this board is wonderful :). I think I am going to buy one video for now and then wait and see what I think. The only thing is I'm 4 months pregnant and not supposed to be doing intervals. Sooooo I have to wait a while before I can actually get the full affect. It is hard to scale things down even when you don't feel like your body needs to yet. But the baby's health is most important, not my impatience. Patricia- you gave me quite a chuckle as I read about you kicking the wall and the cat's bowl. Not that it's funny, you could have been hurt. I guess it just made me smile a little. I hope I have better luck with Mindy, I have heard her cuing is not exactly the best. (especially comparred to Cathe ) Thanks again, Heather

I am glad to see this...

I love Mindy's personality. I like Slammin Sports Cardio the best. So, then I got Extreme Intervals--and I like the Interval Part alot--but the Pump Party is not all that safe. I consistently ended up with a backache-- (and I do have okay abs)so, have abandoned it. As for Action Packed--I was SOOOOO DISAPPOINTED to have to just throw it in the trash can. I tried many, many times --but the cuing is so bad on that one--I couldn't get a workout!! (And I am NOT one to give up easily on $20.00!!)

I love Mindy.I feel like I'm a kid again.I have so much fun.I even like her old videos which have the worst production ever but they work you hard. There on sale for $10.00.I am a step klutz but I can do Mindy's sport moves.I am going to start Cathe's step tapes soon.

Hi Heather

I just thought that I would let you know that I also love Mindy. Next to Cathe, she is about the only other instructor that I really like. I have almost all of her tapes - my favorite is Extreme intervals. This is a FUN tape! It is tough but not as tough as Interval Max. I tried Action Packed this week and although the cueing was bad, I am going to keep trying until I get it!

One other instructor that is quite good is Helen Vandenberg. She has done a few CIA videos. She's very low-key compared to Mindy but also very athletic and not too dancy.

Hope that this helps. Angie

Hi,
As an instructor Mindy has a lot of energy. I like some of her weight work, but don't really enjoy her sports drills. They seem fairly repetitive to me and I get bored easily. Also some of her impact is really high. I think I only have kept one of her videos (and I've had about 5). The rest I traded away. (Note: I continue to have all of Cathe's)

Boot Camp

Hi, I just have the Boot camp video (just did it actually). It's not a dancy, choreographed typical tape. But it's FUN and a great change! Time flies because you keep doing different things-it's like sporty hi/lo w/ some step use, some lunges, pushups added. Your heart rate goes way up, then down,...
My only complaint is there's not really a warm-up and no pre-stretch.

RE: 2K02: Slammin Sports Cardio

That's my main complain on 2K02 also. It does not have stretching after warm up. I don't know how critical stretching is prior to cardio, but I do not feel like a 'complete' workout. 2K02 is an interval workout, and she did not mention to take at least 2 days off before doing it again - as Cathe does in her Interval Max. I just do not feel like it is a 'complete' workout as Cathe's. I know that CIA tapes are meant for instructors, not a personal workout as Cathe's. One way of getting a full workout is doing warm-up and stretching from other tapes - which I refused to do. Just my 0.02!

I agree

You're right, it feels weird not doing an official warm-up and stretch like Cathe (and others do). Mindy has tough workouts so I'd think it'd be a lot safer to have one. Her workouts are different, so it can feel like "Did I do an actual workout today?" since it's not like good 'ol Cathe!
