Anthony Robbins

I just have to ask about this.

I was home yesterday watching daytime TV (yuck!) and I saw this Anthony Robbins infomercial. After watching it, I realized it would be the easiest thing in the world to make fun of it. What can this guy possibly know that can change every aspect of our lives for the better? If his secrets are so simple and easy, why isn't everyone doing it? How is it that this guy has the secret to the perfectly fit body?

But then I thought if there is even a chance that he does have some techniques that may be helpful, I want to know about it. After all, the prices of his stuff are pretty low compared to the results they promise, so there's not that much to lose.

Is there anybody here who has either tried the Robbins tapes or books or who knows someone who has? If so, can you give us a review?
Was it very helpful, somewhat helpful, or total garbage? How did your results compare to the claims in the infomercials? Won't you please share with us? Thanks!!

I don’t know what the current infomercial is you’re referring to…but I bought his book “Awaken The Giant Within” about 12 years ago. It is a motivational book. I discovered him by accident and it just happened at a time when I needed some new perspective on my career. This book had the answers to help me figure out how to guide and balance myself and set goals (which was what I was looking for at the time). For example, I had always had difficulty asking for a raise. By applying some of his suggested principles and improving my self-confidence, I went in and got myself a huge raise, which of course gave me more confidence about achieving other goals. Anyway, it did wonders for me at the time, and I still refer to it on occasion when I need a motivational lift or fresh perspective. The book is very goal oriented and I’m also the kind of personality that responds to that kind of motivation. I just have the one book. I have never heard him speak or listened to his audios.

So yes I think he was very helpful. What is the current informercial?

I saw the informercial you're talking about & it amazed me that this guy promises to help improve EVERY area of your life if you follow his teachings. That scares me in a freaky kind of way.

He's the guy with the horse teeth that's like seven feet tall right? I don't like him at all, I think he's a fake.

Just my two cents

Jo-
There have been several infomercials over the years I think. The current one is for a series of CDs called "Get the Edge" or something like that. The difference between this set of tapes and the former series is that the former series promised results in 30 days and this promises results in 7 days I believe.

Thank you so much for your input! I hope others respond.

Hi Nancy,
I'm glad you're back. You were missed.
My best friends husband loves Tony Robbins. He has his tapes, used them when he first got them and continues to use them as needed. He is very successful, and is in a career that requires a lot of self-motivation. I saw Tony Robbins on QVC selling the new series. a while back. They offer a 30 day money back guarantee, so it seems less risky. I was kind of interested in it as well.

I got one of his cassette tape series and listened to them in the car. All he talked about was passion. Passion this and passion that. Passion about life, work, everything. Now everytime I hear him say that word, I cringe. Needless to say, I didnt get much out of the tapes. But there is one thing I really like about him. His hands. They are huge and I just love them. I love a man with big hands. He has the biggest hands I have ever seen on a man and ............... oh sorry, I am getting carried away. (tee hee)

See Madonna, it's working! He succeeded in making you passionate about fantasizing about his big ole' hands;)

RE: you know what they say

Did you see the movie "Shallow Hal"?

It's a very funny movie and Robbins has a small but pivotal part in it... he does a reasonable job in it. They make a few comments about his size, especially his hands! The guy must be at least 7 feet tall!

At any rate, I would borrow one of his many books from the library before your plunk down the money for a tape. Our library has several of his audio tape series, too; your library might have them as well.

Nancy I base it on the fact that he come across as a fake to me. He's just out to make money off selling us a program that he used to turn his life around. Sorry buddy what worked for you won't work for all of us.

RE: you know what they say

Yes, I did. I didn't think I would like it but I wound up really enjoying the movie. I think it speaks very well for Robbins that he is able to make fun of himself.

My two cents...always think twice before buying anything on TV for three easy monthly payments.

A quick Yahoo search turned up an honest review of Robbins at the site below. I think the suggestions there about reading the works Carnegie and Peale are very sound. I would also suggest Stephen Covey, "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People". You'll surely find it in just about any library.
