Another Troy barbell ?

Hi Everyone,
Those of you that have or had the Firm's barbell, will the plates that fit on the Firm's, fit on the Troy lite barbell?

I found the thread about the Troy lite on the 'Ask Cathe' interesting. I have the Firm barbell, and I notice I'm using my wrist and forearms more than my biceps. I have forearm development when I should be seeing more biceps.
Cathe says this is due to the barbell being too wide and so the wrist is having to compensate...or something to this effect.

So, I'm just trying to save money and not have to buy all new plates with the Troy barbell. ;-)

Hi Wanda!

I don't have the Troy Lite yet but I'm going to get it, so I hope the answer is yes from someone who has the Troy. It looks like the plates will fit -- the Troy Lite appears to take the standard plates with 1" hole like the FIRM barbell. I've bought extra standard plates over the years at Sports Authority and SURE don't want to have to start over!

Hi Ladies!

Your plates from the Firm barbell will fit on the Troy Lite barbell. I have both and I love the Troy Lite. I only use the padded barbell for doing leg work.

Enjoy!

Vickie ;-)

Thanks Vickie. Whew! What a relief!:)

Kathy, where are you going to get your Troy lite? Do you suppose a local sports store will have them or do you have to order on line?

I'm so glad you raised this question on the Cathe forum. I too was having a problem with the Firm barbell. :)

I'm also using the old Firm barbell and I'm very curious about this Troy lite barbell.

Someone mentioned a Fitness First online site; would you mind sharing that link?
Thanks :)

The fitness link is www.fitness1st.com
I just ordered from them. When you get to the home page, I found it easiest to just click on anything. Then the stuff you want is listed at the bottom of that page. I clicked on barbells and wah lah.
Shipping is pretty steep, but I don't have a Troy dealer close by. :(

I don't know is the Firm clamps will work or not? But I decided to get the collars so as to keep two barbells loaded. I work out to exercise and I'm too lazy to load up barbells, go figure! :7

Hi Wanda!

I just ordered from them, too. I actually found this barbell on a couple of other sites but wow, was there a range of prices! One site had it re-branded under their name (Mega something or other) and priced almost double what we're paying for it. I know it was the same barbell -- exact same picture, exact same verbal description.

I called a couple of sporting goods dealers around town, too, and nobody within an easy driving distance of me had it. And heck, Atlanta's gotten so huge it could easily cost me $19 (the shipping charge) in GAS to drive to a "local" dealer!! So I treated myself and the kids will be allowed to "claim" this barbell and my new Blast tapes as a Christmas present to mom. :)

Hey you all!

Troy Lite is the way to go! I have an olympic size bar, an Ivanko and a Bodypump and was never happy with any of them. I still use them on and off for certain exercises, but the Troy is my fav. It just fits RIGHT!

RE: Hey you all!

Hey there Debbie girl, :p
Do you know if the Firm's clips will fit the Troy lite? I went ahead and ordered the collars, but was just wondering about the Firm's?

I can't wait to see if this makes a difference in my biceps. I sure have strong forearms. :7

RE: Hi Wanda!

Hi There Kathy,
I agree you have to take into consideration all the miles of driving, the time in looking in the stores etc. That adds up.
I too saw some of the sites you were talking about. Did you see the one where it cost $79? Wow! The collars were like $24

I think we got a good deal. You type, press some buttons, print out receipt and in 2-3 days the UPS guy comes. :p My kind of shopping. Yea!

Hey!

Not sure as I have never had a Firm barbell. It is those springy, squeeze-together type? If so, they will work. That is what came with mine but they hurt my hands bigtime squeezing them on & off so much. Let me know when your Troy arrives!!!!!!

Yes, they will. I just tried mine, and they fit fine (both the bars are a standard "regular" size--1# in diameter (vs. an "Olympic" bar, which is 2# in diameter).

RE: Hey you all!

Thanks Kathryn for checking to see if the Firm clips work. I think I have all my toys for the new series now. I hope. ;-) Oops, I just thought about gloves and wraps. Cathe wraps her wrists in the Kickbox tape......LOL

How difficult is it to change the collars on the Troy Lite set? I remember looking at barbells awhile ago, and it was nearly impossible for me to get a solid grip on the spring collars to change them. Cathe does this so quickly in her workouts. I ended up buying a threaded bar with the screw on holders because I couldn't squeeze the collars on the other bars. :-(

Oh No Lisa!   A threaded "dreaded" bar!?!   My husband has that and there is no way I can use it with Cathe! It is just too long and you can't change the weights fast enought, period! Oh, well....you are just going to have to get the Troy Lite! :p }(

I am trying to get one too...if hubby will "gift" it to me. :*

You all want to hear something funny? (Here I am writing under Runathon's little guy again...hahaha)
Anyway, when I ordered my Troy lite, I mentioned to them what Cathe said about the gripping. I told them about my wrists and forearm was working harder than my biceps with the Firm's barbell.

Renee from Fitness1 emailed me back and said they wondered why there was suddenly a big demand for barbells. They were happy to know where to attribute all this buying to. Cathe. ;-)

So we all put in a big plug for Cathe over there. Yea!

Hey Wanda...stop "following" my little laughing guy!;-)

hey Wanda and others interested in the Troy Lite barbell;

my mother just happens to live in Missouri and the last time i was home i decided to visit Fitness1st and get a Troy Lite barbell system. I am sooooooooo glad I did. I love my Troy Lite and even the spring collars are easy to change and not hard to squeeze at all. In fact I can keep up with Cathe and crew in PLB. I too have a Firm padded barbell but now just use it for lower body work, sometimes I use my Troy Lite for that too.

Anyway, while I was at Fitness1st I got to meet Renee and all the guys that work there. Renee is super, super nice. I don't know if she works out to Cathe or not but she definately works out. She looks like she uses the equipment she sells and she is super nice. It was great to meet the person behind the computer screen. Now I just gotta get down to NJ and meet Cathe one of these days!!! :D
