Another Troy barbell ?

Thanks for sharing your experience with Fitness1 and in meeting Renee,Soofit.
When you can't meet the person yourself, it is nice to talk with a person who has met them. :)
Renne mentioned in her email that she works out and has used Firm tapes. Now we just have to introduce her to Cathe. :p

Threaded Bar = Dreaded Bar }(

Actually, the threaded bar isn't that bad. ;-)

I've learned to screw/unscrew pretty quickly. Mine is a 16 lb curl bar (which I love). It's easy to add extra weight, and the bar still feels evenly distributed. Its shape really lets me get a good grip during upper body work, and it fits perfectly on my shoulders for lower body training.

I'd been planning (for awhile) to get another bar, a straigt one this time. After reading this message thread, I'm convinced to go for the Troy-Lite. Thanks for helping me spend my money, and those collars had better be easy to change, or else I'm coming back here looking for all of you!!! :p

RE: Hey Lisa,

Hi Lisa, Seems like all the girls here can find ways to spend our money.:)
Where did you find your cute little girl next to your signature?

RE: Hey Lisa,

Thanks Lisa,
I'll have to go over there and check them out. :)

BTW everyone, My Troy Lite has just arrived. I'll let you know how it works with my plates etc.

Lisa and Wanda!

Lisa, what a cute, cute site. It was so funny to have those bikini bodies pop up on the screen! How FUN! Wanda, let me know what you think. I KNOW you are going to LOVE your Troy. Lisa, you NEED one too! :7

Ok...because EVERYONE, it seems, at the Cathe Forum is buying a Troy Lite Barbell.....mine is BACKORDERED!!!!!! :D :p

Hurray! I ordered it, plus resistance bands, plus 3 more step risers, plus a 12 lb body bar! (had to take advantaga of the moment!). I needed the bands for my Slim Series - just to get a different "pull" type of workout. Yippeeee!

Don't we just love to spend money on fitness stuff? :p
I tried out my new Troy this morning. I love it. I think my grip is much better. Hoping for bigger biceps soon!
The springs were tough to get on and then OFF the first time. Being a farmer's wife, DH has lots of machinery. I hear the word "grease" zillions of times. So I put flax oil (nearest thing handy) on the bar and the springs slide on and off real smooth now.

Runathon, those resistance bands really makes a difference don't they?
I just got Brand New Butt + Pilates by Janis Shaffel and she uses those bands. When you wrap them around 3# weights, stand on one end and then do shoulder presses...ouch!}(

Hey there! Is the Janis Saffel workout you got good? Let me know what you think.

I originally got it for the Pilates so I could have variety, and because DebbieH has it. I'm a covetous person. Hahah
But whoa, doing those leg routines with that resistance band, I had to take it easy on the old legs today. The box reads you can use 3# up to 10# weights. I was cooked at 3# and had to quit the weights with the shoulder work. This was my first run through..so I'm hoping for improvement as I learn the workout. Right now I cannot imagine anyone doing this workout with 10#. If they can, my hat is off to them and they will become my hero or heroine. LOL
Pilates was fun with the resistance band. There is a move that mimics rowing a boat.
My only problem is getting that band to stay nice and flat, like they are doing in the video. Mine keeps getting scrunched up. :(

On the DVD there is an extra 23 min of step. I usually can do the step routine pretty well on the first go round. This one NO. It is a layered dancey move. It looks fun...It is a challenge I have committed myself to master.

I think it is good variety for leg work plus the added bonus of working your upper body at the same time. Janis is using the Pilates idea throughout the whole workout.
Hope this helps. I can spend more of your money, right? }( :)

To Vickie, or anyone else who has the Firm barbell and the Troy Lite,

I don't know if anyone will see this, since there's already been so much discussion on this topic, but for those of you with both type barbells, can you mix the weights from? I'd like to get a set of the 10 lb plates, and maybe the 7.5 lb pair, but I have 1.25, 2.5 and 5 from the Firm set. I'm just wondering if they will all fit together okay, so that I can save some money for something else (maybe a new stability ball; I've been inspired by the thread regarding buying them at Sports Authority vs. the net).

This may sound like a dumb question, but I'd appreciate any responses!

Thanks!

Lisa

Hi Lisa,
I have both barbells and the weights interchange perfectly. The Firm's clip fits as well. I bought the clamps to go along with my Troy as I will keep both barbells loaded.
Hope this helps. Have fun with your new toys. :)

Well I just used my new Troy with S&H Triceps and Biceps. I'm convinced that the grip makes a difference. It also made a big difference in the wrist curls at the end.
I'm being brave and adding 2 extra reps to Cathes in the Slow Heavy and I'm adding another set to the Pyramids and the Pure Strength Series.
You wouldn't think 2 "little" reps would feel like anything. But try it. I felt the burn. My goal is to go up to 15 reps in each of the series. Lots of prayer, right? }( }( :7

Hi Wanda, you beast!!!

Girl, you gonna have SOME muscles by the time you're done!!! At this moment in my fitness journey I can't imagine adding another set to Pyramids and S&H. Maybe 15 reps like you say, but wow, a set!!!

I used my new Troy Lite yesterday for Power Hour -- it wasn't scheduled on my September rotation, but I was really in the mood for it. And I agree with you -- my grip felt MUCH better and I believe it's going to make a difference.

I didn't find the spring clips that came with the Troy to be difficult, but they take longer to get on and off than the Sliplocks that came with my old FIRM barbell. I do like the fact that the Troy clips make me work on my grip a little bit! :) But purely for speed, the Sliplocks can't be beat, so I'm going to keep looking for a cheap pair of those. Doing PH yesterday I left my FIRM barbell loaded for legs, and it was nice to have that ready to go!

RE: Hi Wanda, you beast!!!

Hi There Kathy. You're so funny because my DH calls me "Beast" all the time. "hey beast, what's for dinner?" hahahah

I'm hitting my arms and abs hard because that is the very worst parts of me. DH gave me a big complement on my legs today, so something is working. :p I want muscles though. Hey isn't that a song?
At Cory Everson's site, she has listed what she did for training. She does 20-25 reps in 3 sets. It was an eye opener for me.
While my poundage level seems to be at capacity...I don't think I can lift any heavier..?..an earlier accident hurt my neck, big time,
it seemed like increasing the reps and in places the sets was the best idea. I'm using the same weight as Cathe.
Comparing my workout to Cory, 12 reps and the goal of 15, didn't seem so out of line to me. I'm not a trained instructor so I'm just riding on the seat of my pants as the saying goes.
???????

Concerning the slip locks,
Not to be left out in the cornfield, if you find those Slip locks let me know and look for them in the always last to have things, in Indiana.}(

I'm off to do CST with extra sets and tomorrow is ME, so I'll give 'little Troy' a good workout. }( }( }(
